Let me be blunt.  Only six episodes remain in Dark Matter’s third season and they are our strongest to date.  This morning, I received a DM from SpoilerTV’s Aimee Hicks who messaged to say: “I just watched 309 and 310 and you easily just delivered my 2 new all time favorite episodes.”  All I could think was “Wait until she sees 311, 312, and 313!”.

This is the time of year when SYFY decides our fate, so if you want a fourth season of Dark Matter, tune in and help get the word out!

I spent the day packing toys.  I’ve decided to keep the super villain-related items and part with everything else.  Some stuff I’ve set aside for future consideration. Do I keep those old Star Trek photo novels or do I turf them?

While I was on the home front, part of The Raza were at SDCC.  So envious!  This is what I’ve been missing…

  1. Mr. M., I know this post was not about Stargate and I truly hope you get your Dark Matter renewal soon but I have a question. Today at SDCC they announced 10 ten minute webisodes (behind a paywall evidently) – prequels featuring Catherine Langford. What could be the thinking behind an offering such as this to generate more interest in the franchise? It seems quite underwhelming. Just can’t figure out why this format? Sorry to bug you but you know show biz and perhaps have some insight? Thank you.

  2. Looks like the gang had an awesome time at SDCC. I know you weren’t there, Joe, and I think I understand why, having been there twice to help out a mutual producer friend. Calling it Sardine city is being polite. Anyway, I know everybody did Dark Matter proud.

If you can forgive me for this, I’d like to suggest that fans of Dark Matter could send a polite note to SyFy, asking for two more seasons of the show. They can send their request here: http://www.syfy.com/feedback

It may not help, but it can’t hurt.

Snail mail also can be very effective. The address is here:
NBC Universal – Sci Fi Channel
    100 Universal City Plaza
    Bldg. 1400, 14th Floor
    Universal City, CA 91608

  3. So much fun!! Hopefully amongst the attendees we’ll find some new viewers and get the word will spread and this renewal will happen!!

  4. I got one for the Q & A. Sorry if you’ve answered this before but does online subscriptions for DM help ratings? Thanks!

I so need the new episode tonight. I also need to rewatch some of the other ones. I think I missed something about Sara and the Zobot.

  5. Hey Joe,
first of all I would like to say what a wonderful job you and the entire crew did this season on Dark Matter!
I would also like to thank you for your dedication and interaction with the fans of your Blog. I can’t think of any other producer doing that. So thank you very, very much.

Here are my questions for the mailbag.(If you don’t feel comfortable to answer some of them, that is of course ok.)

    1. How’s Akemi doing? Has she fully recovered from her tonsillitis yet and is
    she excited about the move?
    2. How are the dogs doing?
    3. When will be the latest date you have to her from Scifi if you get a picked
    up for season 4?
    4. Will episode 311 “The Dwarf Star Conspiracy” reveal, who the fellow in the
ICU bed was, that we saw in the last episode of season 1?
    5. Was David H. the one that burnt the bridges and trigger the major rewrite
you mentioned in previous post? (The episode turned out great by the
    way)
    6. What are you going to with all the Stargate stuff that sits in your garage?
Any chance we can win some of that cool stuff, through a quiz, like you did
    previously?

Thanks again for taking the time out of your ever so busy schedule and continue with this wonderful place, that this blog is!

  6. So what did you decide about the Fotonovels? I know where they would find a good home 🙂 Your mention of them brought back great memories of perusing the shelves of Heffers Bookstore in Cambridge, England, looking for anything new that was Trek-related when we still only had The Original Series. I had The Deadly Years and A Piece of the Action in Fotonovel form but somewhere in the ensuing 30 years the former has disappeared. I only have the latter because my brother hung onto it.

  7. Wow, SDCC looked hectic and fun! Shout out to the cast and fans of Dark Matter!
Seems most of my friends prefer to watch Dark Matter on catch up – no watershed cutting (Why do they do that?!!!) and no commercials. Does that help with figures? Hope so….

Thank you @Patricia Bertrand for email/snail mail details! 😁 Very useful!!

Thanks again for the offer of a postbag, Joe. You must be so busy house searching … or have you found ‘perfecto home’?
    Please may I ask
How did discussions go with the British producer regarding that revival scifi series? (and who WAS he? – obviously you can’t say…)
How is your spacey military project going?
Seeing as @Irena Strobach and @Wouter have already mentioned him, I don’t feel too bad in bringing him up again …. but
Will we ever see One rejoin the Raza crew (without being killed off before the end of the episode?) You can do a Capt Pike (Star Trek) – One blink for YES!😁 two blinks for no 😞

Say hi to Akemi for us and give squeezy hugs to Lulu and Suji
    Thanks again, Joe.

… Is it Monday yet? (yeah, waiting longer is sooo much harder!)

  8. That must be a huge task having to go through all your stuff and downsize. I might be interested in some of the things too, especially Stargate or Dark Matter related things. You could set up a Paypal account and the proceeds of purchases (like an on-line garage sale) would go to your favorite pug rescue. 🙂

The cast look like they are having a blast at SDCC. I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode.

We are supposed to have a guest drop by so I’m hoping the guest visits and leaves by 8 p.m. If she gets here soon, we would have about 3 hours to catch up. I think that is plenty of time. She is moving back here so its not like I won’t see her again for awhile. In fact, I’m going to tap into her for babysitting. She used to babysit Patrick as a teenager and now she is a teacher (master’s level) going for the board certification in applied behavior analysis. Patrick was part of her inspiration of going into special education. That makes me all teary-eyed that Patrick had an influence like that on someone’s life. Makes me one proud mama.

  9. Hi Joe. I was watching youtube video, and in the and of june a channel made a video of “Top 10 Sci-Fi Shows That Deserve a Second Chance ” and SGU was in third place. It sad that they cancel the show. In my opinion they had a 3-4 years to continue with a third season. But I guess now it’s too late. At least we have we have Dark Matter. Hope the ratings will be good for more seasons.

  10. Oow, another question….
Will there ever be any Dark Matter merchandise for sale, like tee shirts, hats etc … and that poster I see in After Dark?
I know these items are around.

  11. I tried to post this yesterday afternoon but I guess it never uploaded.
So much fun at SDCC, really enjoying all the live tweeting/IG. Great for those of us unable to be there.

My visits here have been rather infrequent of late, and I know its the same for some others who pop in when they can, but I’ve not seen many posts from @Drea. I know she’ll probably be really busy but just wondered if anyone had heard from her?

    For the mailbag –
    >>Did you all get everything done that you aimed for during the Season 4 writers’ room meetings?

    >>The silhouette for Season 3, why are there still seven crew members? Is it the original Season 1 crew that has just been used again? (I’ve probably just answered this one myself but decided to ask it anyway!) lol

    >>Are you posting some more Trivia Quiz questions?

    >>In which episode will we find out what the box with the spider-like emblem on the front (from Season 2 Episode 3 I’ve Seen The Other Side Of You) means to Three?
(I’m looking forward to finding out about this, as I ‘think’ it has something to do with whatever Ryo/Sarah both know about Boone’s past!)

    From an interview –
“In this episode, she is able to recall certain flashes, glimpsing life prior to the group going into stasis,” reveals Mallozzi. “It sheds light on her relationship with Portia, with Portia’s relationship with Das, and [the Android’s] relationship with Ryo.”
    >>Which Episode will we find this out about Android?

My questions from earlier posts were about Episode 1
    >>Why did Six not make any comment/react about the fact Anders saved Three, especially as Anders contacted the Raza to pick Three up? Six would have still thought he’d shot, and possibly killed Anders. Therefore, wouldn’t he have been relieved that Anders was alright?

    >>Will we find out why exactly Anders was on EOS-7 to start with?

Thanks, Joe for doing another mailbag.
