Holy crap!  I’ve have less than a month to prepare for my move to Toronto!  I’ve got all next week, then about a week or so after I get back from Japan to get all my affairs in order.  To quote comic strip heroine Cathy actor David Blue: “Ack!”. The production will probably take me into June of 2015 and, unless I can convince my buddy Ivon to swing by the house to root through all of my old files and compile my 2014 bank statements, I’d probably better off amassing everything now and dropping it off with my accountant before I leave town.  And I still need to find somewhere to live over there!

And find someone to live over here!

Also, the dogs need to go on a crash diet!

And I’ve got a script to finish before I head to Tokyo.  Fortunately, I’m well on pace. Today, I completed what will probably be the most challenging scene of episode 12 and am sitting comfortably at the P.26 mark.  We segue from this to the ship then back to the facility and…END ACT II!  The big visual effects sequence we have planned for this episode is going to be CRAZY cool.

By the way, the Skype three-way went splendidly.  We nailed down the space station (a.k.a. the tiered mushroom) and refined the ship design (more retrofitted weaponry, gak, airlocks, and the shuttle dock).   Ian, our Production Designer, said our scripts have the best cold opens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_open) and tags (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheTag) he’s ever read.  Very kind of him to say and, hopefully, when the show airs, you’ll all have the same reaction: “This is great!  I can’t wait to find out what happens this episode!” and “This is terrible!  I have to wait ’til next week to find out what happens next episode!”

So, what’s happening on your end?  Wrapping up any projects?  Starting any new ones?  Reading/watching anything interesting?

  1. How can you go in production on a month and we still don’t know what for? Yes, I’m whining.

  2. How coincidental. I was pitching a television show with my partner today. It’s early days, yet, but I think it went well. We didn’t use Skype though. We used a conference call. I find Skype can be frustrating sometimes. Audio can drop out or get garbled. Does this happen to you?

You certainly have a lot on your plate. Going from zero to frantic is part of the job, isn’t it? I was reading that there are some areas of Toronto that are better for dogs than others, here: http://juliekinnear.com/blogs/dog-friendly-neighbourhoods-toronto

I am looking forward to the series you are working on. I have always loved your writing. So glad you will be back into it soon.

  3. Surprising “first viewing” last night: episode 7 of USA Network’s “Rush”. Overall qualiity good, more humorous than expected, and, hey! It’s made in Vancouver /Coquitlam.

Speaking of BC, may not make second visit this fall. Got a kitchen to remodel and various other trips planned. 35-year college reunion or Vegas? Decisions, decisions…

  4. Toronto is the city with that crazy mayor…Ford? You should give him a cameo in your show. It would get you some attention. Has Akemi learned Canada’s national anthem? Can she sing it? Can you sing it? Maybe a duet of you two, with your camera rolling…? 🙂

  5. 1. I prefer to have the mental image of Bill the Cat in my head when I – ya know – ‘ACK!’. 😉

    2. Finishing up the summer. Went to the boardwalk again tonight, saw fireworks (and no, not the kind that happen under the boardwalk…), and dined on fudge and Curley’s Fries! Woo! 😀 My arse just grew ten inches! ACK! 😛

    3. Speaking of which…there was this girl on the boardwalk – a ‘Jersey Shore’ type – in a very tight camouflage full-body leotard. Guess what? It did NOT camouflage her badonkadonk! That thing was HUGE, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of it because it jiggled like camouflaged Jell-O. It was mesmerizing…in a sort of lava lamp kinda way.

    4. I wrapped up paperwork for the employees’ applications for state licenses, and for health insurance renewals. Deadline for both was today. Needless to say it was a very stressful week.

    5. Reading…? Not much. In the past three-four weeks the only book I’ve really read is the Bible. And boy o boy…do I have a LOT to work on. 😛

    6. Watching…? (I should be watching the insides of my eye-peeper lids, but noooo…instead I’m here, typing away and aggravating my Crappy Tunnel Syndrome, all in the name of Joey-love.) Anyhoo…what am I watching? Rugby. Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Adam-12, Emergency…just old stuff that makes me happy. Sadly, I still have not watched Sharknado 2 – perhaps over the weekend. We did go see Guardians of the Galaxy, which was terrific, but that’s about it. I am boring. Or maybe just old.

    7. New projects? No…just the perpetual one where I’m trying to get my act together, and failing miserably. 😛

    das

  6. PS…

I just drank an entire bottle of water. So, I’m guessing that I’m starting a new project tonight entitled ‘up all night peeing’. I am such an idiot. 😛

  7. G’day

Wrapped up my task for August. Getting the seven souvenirs for August in geocaching. Had a meet and greet today.

Watching – no.2 daughter has just gotten into Supernatural. So we have watched ALL the episodes in just a few weeks.
My footy team had their last game for the season today, so it was kinda sad to watch. Especially since it was a draw. They did not make make the finals this year :'(

  8. My only new project is painting the house. After the foyer, the rest will be a breeze (no ladders).

Today we are visiting my mom. So it’s an all day drive fest. 🙁

I’m stressed just reading your “to do” list. It’s good you have friends to help (Ivon).

  9. Just finished watching (again) “The Last Valley,” a forgotten gem of a movie about a band of mercenaries who take over an untouched village as their winter camp during the Thirty Years War. Stars an unbelievably young and bad-ass Michael Caine, a total lack of Michael Bay-ish editing, one of the moodiest scores John Barry ever composed, and James Clavell as the screenwriter and director.

    @Andrea: I’m whining with you!

  10. Wow! I have been out of the loop a long time! You’re moving to Toronto after your Japan trip? I think the last time I regularly checked in here was your last Japan trip.

I’ve been busy figuring life out. In doing so, found Arrow in repeats over the summer. I am addicted. After purchasing the DVD for Season 1, I find a familiar face at the helm of stunt coordination: Mr. James “Bam Bam” Bamford! I hope I spelled his name correctly. The world is getting smaller.

  11. Hey Joe

Honestly, how long does it take to cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s? Are they waiting for the ink to dry and change to the correct colour? Seems like it’s been eons….

  12. RE: The Production. I’m pretty sure Joey’s dropped enough hints for us to know what the production is…

    Silent But Deadly Burritos

    The Fudgy Wudgy Wagon

The Carrionvan (specializing in Surströmming and similar delicacies)

The Patty Wagon (Jamaican beef patties, mon!)

    The Tart Cart

    Highballs & Cocktails (yeah…you pretty much get where I’m going with this… 😉 )

The Roach Coach (featuring an array of edible creepy crawlies…)

The villain, of course, is Kristof, a diabolical food critic of indeterminable Eastern European descent…just because nothing sounds more diabolical than an Eastern European accent…amirite?

  13. For my weekend (Tues.-Thurs.) I spent time at the MN State Fair. It was a gastro extravaganza. Unfortunately, one of my friends of whom brought her daughter so instead of cueing in line for my next menu item, I spend time in line at the water ride. However, I did start out with Hot dish on a stick (very disappointing) I would have been better choosing between a pronto pup or a corn dog. Next I had my first Scottish Egg. It was very good. The horseradish sauce was a good complement. I had my first lobster roll. (Odd that Akemi would be allergic to lobster and not shrimp) I think it would be better on a kaiser roll or a baguette, but still enjoyable accompanied by some crab cakes. I stopped by for some Swedish coffee. I nice but not robust in flavor as it is Swedish. We have lost the concept of a bottomless cup thanks to the likes of Starbucks so I foolishly tossed the cup after one. The fried walleye cakes and walleye mac and cheese were good. I really liked the Mac and cheese. It didn’t need the walleye (two meager fried strips) to stand out. It was spiced with roasted corn and sweat pepper and real cheese. All capped with hot apple dumpling w/ice cream. So sad I could not go the next day and try to finnish out the list.

  14. I know down here real estate agents can help you find renters (if that is what you mean about finding someone to live there in Vancouver). Does that work the same up there? That might help relieve some of the stress on you in that department. Glad your Skype call went well.

I’ve just been busy between work and Patrick and home life. This Labor Day weekend everyone was busy until the last minute. One of my best clients is a little bit of a last-minute planner but this is the second time I’ve gotten a text that said, “Hey, I’m on a plane. Can you take care of my babies this holiday weekend?” Her dog is very involved–has seizures–and then I get a Oh, by the way, we got a new cat. I have no info on this cat. I don’t know what to feed it, if the cat is roaming free or separated like she did the last time from the other cat etc. I have no paperwork allowing me to seek treatment for this cat if something happens to it. And because she ran to the airport at the last minute, none of the house was prepared to mitigate any seizure-related destruction from the dog, who was going to have to be indoors because of the high rain chance. I’ve done something wacky to my sacrum and have been seeing my PT daily over the few days (was flat on my back on Wednesday) and will see her on Tuesday, and I really did not need to be picking up all of this dog’s red-light destructive things–things as simple as paper and books that were sitting on the stairway to go upstairs to her kids rooms. My 40-minute visit turned into 1-1/4 hours. I’ll have to bill her for it, but it put me late to the second set of dogs, one of who is having chronic diarrhea and if I don’t get there in time I will have a mess to clean up. I got home at 11 p.m. last night, was finally asleep by 1:30 a.m. and I had to get up at 5:30 a.m. to start my day again. We had Patrick’s ABA therapist over here for 2 hours today (which is every Saturday now to help with some home stuff they can’t cover at school like the shower). Jeff was out of town from Friday morning early until Tuesday night late visiting his family in New Jersey so I had solo Patrick care. Another client’s dog died which was very sad. My friend’s son overdosed and they put him in a medically induced coma. They keep trying to wean him from ventilation but it is not going well. I did my own version of the ice bucket challenge which anybody can see on my Facebook page (unless you’re blocked) as I put it public. My friend Bill has had ALS now for 18 years. I’ve known him for 26 years now. I thought it was 16, but he recently corrected me that it as 18. Amazing person. So blessed to know him. I had to comb through 23 years of unorganized pictures for a retirement scrapbook for my old boss from the company I left when I started my pet sitting business. I’m in a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica for those 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. times when I can’t do anything else but lay in bed because I bother everyone. We have a little house guest who I was worried that Boomer would try to find out if he was a squeaky toy or not, but we eventually got them merged. His owner is happy that he is staying here (she’s been my client for 2 years now) because she was worried about how lonely he would be (her son went off to college) while she was on her trip. We’re enjoying him. His name is Lucky but I call him my Lucky Star. And this means my dog training sessions with Boomer are working. I had a dog training session on Tuesday with him. I had a parent orientation meeting at my son’s school which is a 35 minute drive one-way under normal circumstances but on Monday it was 50 minutes. I had to give a presentation because I was on one of the parent committees. Patrick and I didn’t get home until 9:00 p.m. and he didn’t go to sleep until midnight. I have monthly notes to still write up for the state that are due on Monday so I’ll have that to look forward to tomorrow. So that is some of what went on this week for me. And on that note, I have to leave for my evening pet sitting rounds.
