August 28, 2014: Akemi’s Reflections On Bubba And Lobster!

Akemi this morning on her love for Bubba:

“Bubba is best thing that happened to me this lifetime.  I’m so glad I met you.”

The other day, she made a little something for Bubba:

And a little something for me as well:

Scotch-laced hot chocolate

Also, yesterday, Akemi experienced an allergic reaction to something – and we suspect it might be…uh oh…lobster!  She was understandably alarmed at the prospect:

“But how possible?  I am Japanese!”

and because she only discovered the true joys of lobster rolls all too recently:

“So sad my lobster honeymoon over after just one year.”

In the end, she blames everything on Martin Gero who introduced her to lobster rolls when he hired a lobster food truck to serve them at his birthday party a couple of years ago.

What the hell was Martin thinking?!!!

Today’s entry is dedicated to belated birthday gal Kathode!

  1. 😒😞😣😢😭😥😰😓😩😫😨😟😦😧😕😿🙍
All the sad emojis on Akemi’s behalf. Been there. Fear of food(s) is not fun.

  2. Akemi has her priorities in order. First Bubba, then…lobster? And then you? 😉

  3. I developed an allergy to a very suspicious lobster, as well. Turned out to be an allergy to bananas, and I found out the hard way! Get her checked out! 🙂

  4. I can’t imagine being allergic to lobster. A terrible fate! Maybe the sensitivity is to something else? Or maybe will go away? I hope.

Well, it’s good to be at least second. (Or third.) I guess!

  5. Translate in enlgish. This is very important and my English is too pitiful for understanding !

Je me lance car effectivement.

  6. It may not be a lobster allergy. Sometimes, you get a bad lobster, or a lobster that ate some red algae and have accumulated the toxin in their system. Consuming shellfish that’s been exposed to red algae can appear like an allergic reaction because it can cause your lips, gums, tongue, face, etc… to feel tingling, burning, or appear to be puffy. Other times you can get nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

  7. How did the anti-lobster reaction manifest itself? Strange that it wouldn’t have reared its head with previous ingestions of lobster.

I don’t eat lobster, but only because I don’t like the flavour. It’s the only kind of seafood I don’t like. I remember being excited to try fresh-caught steamed lobster at my aunt’s house on Long Island when I was a kid. I loved shrimp, crab, mussels, and oysters, so OF COURSE I would love lobster, right? I had no doubt. Then I actually ate it. I was SO disappointed! The flavour just doesn’t agree with me. I mean, I can tolerate it, especially mixed in with other ingredients that disguise the flavour, but usually I just try to avoid it. Sad, I know.

Thanks for the birthday shout-out and for coming out to celebrate — especially given that Akemi was feeling yucky earlier from her lobster run-in! I’m amazed she was able to eat at all! Iron stomach?

  8. I’ve said it before, Joe, your dogs eat better than I do! 🙂

I’m a big fan of exposure therapy. Not just for allergies but for anything that might cause an adverse reaction (physically, mentally, emotionally). So my advice to Akemi is to not avoid lobster completely. Keep trying it in small amounts (unless we’re talking anaphylaxis here) and hopefully things will get better.

Personally, lobster is fine if someone has picked out all the meat for me but as I subscribe to the “shovel it in while it’s hot” method of eating I can’t be having with all the shell cracking/meat picking nonsense.

  9. Don’t worry Joe, I’m sure you’re a close second. Or third or fourth after Jelly and Lulu.

Food allergies stink! I’m sorry to hear that, Akemi.

  10. Happy Birthday Kathode!

I’m with Deni, get her checked out! Maybe she’s allergic to something they put on it, like the mayo. She could live without mayo….

  11. Happy Birthday Kathode! I hope it’s a good one!

We just made it to Twin City after a day of college visiting (Georgia Tech) and then getting stuck in Atlanta and Macon holiday weekend traffic while towing the travel trailer. Now that everything is setup, I’m finally relaxing for the evening.

Hey Joe, I’m thinking of having my pickled pigs feet (which I picked up south of Atlanta) sometime tomorrow. Do you want pictures?

  12. Happy Birthday Kathode! Hope you had a great one.
~~Akemi I hope you are feeling better.

  13. I agree with Akemi – so very, very sad. I love lobster. I also love clam chowder, but the last time I had it, my throat started to close up. So, no more clams for me!

  14. Very belated birthday Kathode. Sorry to hear about Akemi’s allergic reaction to lobster. I am more of a King crab girl; lobster has a more rich taste I’m not fond of. Liked the blog because Akemi has a great sense of humor. You guys are a great match.
