Nicole enjoys some down time.

Awwww. She\'s so cute. And cold.

I was really looking forward to today’s Lynn Valley location shoot. Finally, we‘d be out of the dark environs of the FX Stage and basking in the sun‘s warmth. Well, not exactly. It was overcast for most of the day and, yeah, damn cold to boot. I spent most of the morning huddled up to the heater. “Just trying to warm up my green tea latte,”I told anyone who happened by, smiling amiably and giving the empty cup a little shake. I think they bought it. I did venture out on occasion to field dialogue queries, address script concerns, and chase down the mobile snack station dispensing grilled reubens and chicken soup. Fortunately, it was only a half day for me as, by early afternoon, the three Whispers scenes were completed and the focus shifted to Tracker. While I would have loved to stick around for this one, I thought it would be presumptuous of me to be making producorial decisions on Carl’s episode. Also, I couldn’t feel my feet. Special Features Producer Ivon Bartok and I caught a lift with one of the transport guys who ferried us out of the forest, down the road, over to the crew park, past the parking lot, up the road, into the forest and back to our departure point before realizing we were still in the van with him.

Well, I finally did make it back to the production offices in time to watch the producer’s cut of The Shrine of Talus (Some really nice moments in this one. And it’s nice to see Jeannie back.) and give Carl notes on his beat sheet (formerly The Red Shirt Diaries then First Day and now ???).

An early night tonight and an even earlier start to the day tomorrow (a 6:30 a.m. call!) for our last day on Whispers. On tap for Friday: Searching, a gunfirely interruption, the mist rolls in, and shadows and fog.

Mailbag –

Charles Schneider writes: “Everybody’s had snow days when they can’t get to school or work because it’s so bad, but have you or anyone at Stargate been snowed in at the studio?”

Answer: Nope. In spite of the fact that we Vancouver is a Canadian city, it doesn’t get all that much snow.

Patricia Lee writes: “how is Lulu and the other pups doing?”

Answer: Great. The dogs have been spending quality time with mom while I’ve been on set.

Thornyrose writes: “Are those figures who we think they are?”

Answer: Uh, I don’t know. Who do we think they are?

Thornyrose also writes: “ Has the use of standing sets been a cost saving measure? Is it ever more expensive to modify the interior sets than it is to do an outdoors shoot?”

Answer: The expense of modifying an interior set are well worth it since it saves us the cost of packing up and moving everyone/everything to a location for however many days are required to shoot there.

Kellie writes: ““Walkers in Darkness” just won me a $100 scholarship in a contest. “

Answer: Congratulations. Great story.

Janet writes: “Just wondering, is it just the one episode for Amanda Tapping at the moment or are there going to be more later in the season.”

Answer: There should be more than one Amanda appearance in season 5 – but, as I’ve said from the start, it all depends on her schedule.

Travis writes: “Would it be possible for Dr. McKay to acquire the schematics to create a ZPM from a single, human form replicator?”

Answer: Not unless the replicator specifically gave him the information.

wraithbones writes: “Have you ever read Markus Zusak “The Book Thief”?”

Answer: I haven’t.

Amy Lynn writes: “With on-location shooting, how much do you guys think you will be doing this?”

Answer: We have no way of knowing until we get the script.

AMZ writes: “Wish me luck with the wind!”

Answer: Good luck with the wind!

Cathie writes: “Have you ever tried kangaroo meat!”

Answer: Sometimes last year (or it may have been the year before), the writers ordered from a place called Stormin’ Norman’s that offered a variety of exotic burgers including: elk, deer, ostrich, and, yes, even kangaroo. We weren’t wild about the taste. And, as Carl eloquently put it after we’d sampled the selection: “I feel as though there’s a wildebeast stampede in my stomach.”

Shirt ’n Tie writes: “ Have just heard that SGA will return earlier, (in July)…Is this true or just speculation? If true, any ideas on the UK/Ireland Sky One pick up date?”

Answer: I haven’t heard anything official yet – but it sounds about right. As for when the show will air in the UK/Ireland – no idea.

OctoberMoon writes: “Do you have any production plans in place to finish most/all of the season if a strike does occur?”

Answer: Yep. Fans will fall in love with an all new team of daring adventurers/writer-producers.

Tba writes: “Are there any new true ‘alien’ races in s5, like the Asgard?”

Answer: Yep.

Stargategeek writes: “You said you speak 3.5 languages. What are they?”

Answer: English, Italian, French and some Japanese.

Syble4 writes: “I’d ask for a pic of Joe Flanigan for my birthday tomorrow, but something tells me that’s not really a possibility.”

Answer: Alas, it isn’t. But happy birthday anyway!

Caro writes: “Just wondering, we have heard a lot about Whispers, but could we have some pics/video from some of the other episodes being filmed please?”

Answer: We’ve heard a lot about Whispers because it’s my episode and I have been on set for most of the production. Time permitting, I will drop by set and snap some pics of other episodes (ie. I’ve already posted pics from Search and Rescue and Ghost in the Machine).

GoSpikey writes: “Any chance of us seeing Mr Coolidge again this season?”

Answer: Nope. Sorry.

Ahem writes: “But despite your assurances that Joe F., is/was on the set, we have yet to see even one photo of him. Is there some reason you will not post his photos despite the many pleas from readers?”

Answer: Yep. The reason I haven’t posted any photos is because I haven’t taken any.

MrsB108 writes: “Do any of the characters stand out this year in regards to substantial emotional moments?”

Answer: All of them have some nice, meaty, emotional scenes.

  1. Is there any particular reason that you have been lurking whilst “Whispers” is being filmed. Apart from all the pretty ladies that is.

Say “hello” to Paul McGillion tomorrow – it is a pity that he isn’t going to DragonCon, but I still plan to enjoy myself.

  2. I’m curious. Is Joe Flanigan just not that friendly on set/off set or is he camera shy or what the heck??? Why do we never really see much of him in your set shots? Given, of course the fact that he may not be on set that day and thus impossible, but really, he was in Whispers, as far as you’ve told us, so…??? I know others have asked, but seriously, what is with that?

The Chocolate party looked glorious. Did anyone ask if any chocolate ended up being a disappointment? And if so, why?

You could tell him we know he has weird hair – no need to be a prima donna 😉

Answer: Yep. The reason I haven’t posted any photos is because I haven’t taken any.
    [of Joe Flanigan, ed.]

Ah, a new theory forms – he’s really a ghost – you CAN’T take pictures of him – he doesn’t stick to film (the one in the series is CGI 😉 )

  4. Oh, they all look so cute bundled up in the parkas. Thanks for posting the set pictures. Oh, and the actual representation of that tree doll from the drawings is very creepy. Love it.

Did you know your blog now offers “automatically generated”, “possibly related” blogposts? And that one of them offered today is The Hum – Cameron’s Skimpy Suit Misses the Point. Is the horror in Whispers really an alien’s “Next Top Model” gone wrong? Be honest.

    😉

  5. With all the great guest actors you’ve secured for season 5 I’m really excited to see them play with the regulars. Are there any actors that you haven’t been able to lock down that you’d really like to use someday?

Or is there anybody you’d love to write a scene for that would probably never work out (alive/dead/mortal enemy)?

  6. Another great batch of pictures, plus a mailbag. Many thanks for defering on bedtime to get your post up early. Given the pace of the last week, you should be just shy of the hallucination stage of sleep deprivation. Here’s hoping Friday goes by quickly and disaster free, and that you can catch up on some quality snooze time. In reference to my question, “Are those figures who we think they are?”, obviously they are Ronon, Caldwell, and Zelinka. Who else would be skulking about like that? (just kidding folks). Thanks again for your time and effort on our behalf.

  7. “Answer: Yep. Fans will fall in love with an all new team of daring adventurers/writer-producers.”

Okay, don’t even joke about that, because that would just be too awesome! Whatever happened to Danger Beckett? Any chance of Marty G. resurecting the beloved character?

  9. As to a comment from Apr 28 re Keller: I think she’s great and – not to slight him either BUT – I frequently had issues with Beckett being a tad on the whiney side and too much of a bleeding heart. They’re both doctors, though, so you sorta expect that. As long as we don’t lose Rodney or John, however, I’m pretty good with most others of the cast floating in and out!

  10. Hey Joe. Is the Shrine of Talus still going to be called that, or is it now just The Shrine? I thought I read something saying there were issues around the “Talus” part.

  11. I was listening to the commentary for the Shroud when Rob Cooper mentioned that one Ori ship was a mile long from nose to tail, and I was very surprised because I had never realized it was so massive.

So I was just wondering if you knew off-hand how large the Earth ships and the Wraith ships are for comparison?

  12. Hey Joe

Thanks for keeping us apprised on what is happening on “Whispers”. My family is very excited about the hopefully correct date of July 11th for the season premiere of “Search and Rescue”.

Quick question: Does it take a few episodes or more for Woolsey to get a good grasp of the command? Will there be some major mistakes that cause repercussions down the line due to his inexperience with leading the expidition?

I just finished a trilogy by Lois McMaster Bujold (The Curse of Chalion * Paladin of Souls * Hallowed Hunt) which has a incredibly complex world and characters that you might really enjoy. The second book won the Hugo for best novel.

    Have a good one

  13. Thanks for the pictures from the set (especially the ones of Paul). I take it today wasn’t typical May 1st weather? Too bad you can’t send it my way – we’ll be hitting 100oF any day now in Arizona…

  14. Joe,

I think I speak about 3.5 languages myself. Well more like 3.1 I speak english (usually), french, italian (on a good day), and some hebrew.

I am going to yell at Fedex for not overnighting you the warm, sunny Florida weather. While you are freezing my girls were getting sunburned swimming in gramma’s pool. It’s just more proof that we live in different worlds. 😀

Thanks for another Paul photo! 😀 *does happy dance*

And shhhh! Allie doesn’t know I’m telling you this but her birthday is May 5th. If it’s not too much trouble a shout out to her from you would be really appreciated. I cannot believe she’ll be 14!

    Trish

  15. didn’t get to comment on the pics from yesterday. That doll is just……..scary, and coming from this person (she who can watch the exorcist whilst 1- eating and 2- not batting an eyelid) that’s saying something. Well done on creating something that is just terrifying.

Paul looks like he’s lost alot of weight. Whispers looks like an awesome ep, can’t wait! How’s the eye Mistah?

  16. Hey Joe,

Just spent an hour watching my 10-year-old play baseball (first game of the season) in on/off rainy 9C weather that felt colder despite my faux sheepskin coat which I excavated out of winter storage (having learned my lesson on Tuesday when I stood outside for an hour in 8C weather wearing my light spring jacket watching my 7-year-old play his first game of T-ball and having to defrost afterwards) – so I can relate! Hope you had your parka on…

Looking forward to meeting the new aliens – will they be CGI or real humans in alien suits/prosthetics/makeup?

    Jean

  17. Hey Joe, guess what! Tomorrow is my birthday and I was thinking it would be a great day to post another fun behind the scenes video. Doesn’t that sound like a great idea? *hint hint*

Oh and your gift will be mailed out this weekend. I had a slight delay waiting for my manager’s approval on the second part.

  18. Gateworld tells us that there will be a July 11th premiere of Season 5. Woo!! I realize that that that date could be changed or not accurate, but even still, I’m excited!

  19. May 1st weather in Kansas means crowding around the back door listening to the tornado sirens. They went off at least six times in an hour! We didn’t even get any of the hail, though.

I recently discovered that my job, should there be a tornado warning while I’m on duty at the police station, is to stand in the lobby and direct anyone who comes in for shelter to the “safe areas.” Oh, goodie.

  20. Hey, thanks for the kind wishes!

And just incase any of you other commenters are wondering, I am not bothered in the slightest that Joe couldn’t product the pic I mentioned? Nope, not at all. After all, this Joe Mallozzi blog, not Joe Flanigan’s, or David Hewlett’s or anyone else’s. What he chooses to post or not post is completely up to him. I am amazed that Joe takes so much time, heck any time at all, to answer so many of the myriad comments and questions in the first place. How cool is this!

Reading the questions some of you have asked about why there are no pics of Joe Flanigan, made me wonder why we would expect to see any at all. In my mind, and this is from my pov only, if I had a blog that I posted information about what I’m doing and what’s important to me, I’d get a bit perturbed if people kept asking ‘me’ about my co-worker. Even if I liked my co-worker or not would not matter. I’d just be irritated that people weren’t here to talk about me. That is what a blog is all about. The blogger. Of course, this is all speculation on my part based upon my own reactions. I could be completely wrong, but it doesn’t matter. This isn’t my blog.

So, nope. I’m here to enjoy what Joe Mallozzi has to say, and show us. Would I love to see a pic of said other people, of course I would, but that’s not why I’m here.

  21. Ok, I’m going to ask again since you’ve recently seen the FINISHED version of the movie. Is Carter a Lt. Colonel or Full Colonel in Continuum? Please answer. It’s not a spoiler!

  22. Hey Joe, just saw over on GateWorld that Amanda is doing 4 commentaries on the season 4 SGA DVDs and none of the other actors are doing any. She was also the only actor to do any commentaries on the SG1 season 10 DVDs. Were any of the rest of the main cast of SGA asked and opted not to do one or did you guys only ask Amanda?

  23. Hey Joe! Thanks for the pic’s! Paul looks a lot younger in that photo – sexy pose, too! 🙂

Seeing the tree shots made me wonder… Do you have a couple of regular locations for “Ext. Forest – Day” 😛 or do your location people usually find different places for different episodes?

May Friday’s ‘last day’ go quickly under sunny skies!

    Nika

  24. First off: Joe, can I be your new best friend? I’m drooling over the pictures from your chocolate party. I only have twenty bucks on me right now, and that doesn’t buy a whole lot of chocolate, especially when the only places I can get it are Target and Cost Plus World Market.

Second, I know no one cares about this, just wanted to say what a weird coincidence it is that we both had green tea lattes today.

Also, have you ever read the Incarnations of Immortality series, by Piers Anthony?

  25. The picture you posted yesterday of the alien-creature-zombie looks incredibly freaky. There’s something about not having eyes that is so unnerving to me. I’m really excited for this episode now. Thanks for all the pictures!

  26. Okay, you say you haven’t taken any pictures of Joe F. I’m nosy – is that because his makeup or costume would give away something about the plot? Oh, I hope you haven’t covered his face. That would be aesthetically wasteful.

  27. Hi Joe,

    Fantastic blog as always!

I have one observation and one question.

If you’ve seen the latest summer flick Ironman (which was pretty good) then you’ll know i had a geektastic moment when the Jericho missile was fired. All I could think of was Project Horizon!!!

My question is if you could comment on the evolution of the visual effects of the hyperspace window formation from the first time we saw it in SG-1 till its present genesis in Atlantis. I noticed a change in the way the effect was done in season 2 onwards after season 1 of Atlantis.

Kudos for all this relatively live behind the scenes coverage!

    🙂

  28. I know I’m beating a dead horse, but hey that’s me. Any idea when the shep whump epi might be in the schedule? Would the show ever consider blinding col. sheppard for an ep or two, you know keeping with the whump scene. Is the reason the reason you havn’t taken any photos of Joe because he had a small part in whispers or??? Please tell me do you use camera angles to make Jason look taller then Joe Flanigan or Is imdb wrong and Jason is much taller then Joe F? More then the 2 inches difference that they report on the site? Please please please please please please tell me, throw me a bone, give me something little to wet my appetite?

  29. It may be cold up in Vancouver, but Spring has finally arrived here in the Midwestern U.S. I can tell because my dog just found her first skunk of the season. Fortunately I still have the “deskunkifying” recipe that the vet gave me last year, which helps a little; I’m hoping that the smell will be gone by next week. 🙁

But her little adventure with Nature made me wonder about your outdoor filming in the forest. You are out in the wilds, day *and* night. As I recall from my visits to BC, there is plenty of wildlife up there — do you ever have close encounters of the furry, fanged or antlered kind or is there so much noise from all the people involved in the filming that they stay far away?

  30. So I gotta ask…if Daniel Jackson is guesting on the show, are y’all writing him and McKay a fast-talking-competition scene? I’m figuring the two of them could get through ten pages of dialog in a minute flat, easy.

  31. You know, I am tending to agree with syble4 here. I also think that the repeated requests for mentions or pictures of JF are getting a bit… awkward, might I say. And this coming from a big JF fan. If, and I stress if, there is something going on behind the scenes, then it is obviously none of our business and JM is keeping things professional by not discussing them. Please be glad for all the wonderful pictures and behind the scenes glimpses of our favorite show that he does choose to share. He certainly doesn’t have to do it and I,for one, am always fascinated by the insights into the production of a great show, not to mention the chocolate, food, pups and Baron Destructo, etc.

  32. Couple of Ronan questions:

    – Ronan looks awesome when he goes offworld, but I can’t help but notice the absense of pockets. He doesn’t wear a Tac Vest either; does he have to raid Rodney’s uniform for snacks while offworld, or does he have some concealed storage?

    – Ronan is unique amongst the “aliens” working with the Stargate program in that he doesn’t ever wear a “uniform”. With Ronan’s hair now altering his overall look, are there any plans to put him in a more “standard” outfit, or is he going to still be running around as a space cowboy?

    – In Travellers, the ammo ran out on Sheppard’s gun. Was that just his bad luck for finding a gun with low batteries, or does Ronan have a stash of spare power cells that just haven’t appeared on-screen?

  33. Hello again Mr M!

Greetings from Sunny Tipperary (a balmy 10 degrees celcius)
Wow, you guys are really getting a cold snap in Vancouver! Thank you for your response, and glad to hear SGA is back early…Hopefully the UK will follow suit and we can look forward to a thrilling Summer’s TV!!! With this early start, there obviously comes more pressure with post-production. Will this mean that you are working on the back end of Season 5 while the early eps are airing? Wow!?! Also, will this mean a little more time off for you and the crew?? Perhaps a foreign holiday??

    Thanks again Mr M

    Shirt’n’Tie

  34. Thanks for the picture of Paul!
Any idea when Kavan Smith will next be on set?

  35. On tap for Friday: Searching, a gunfirely interruption, the mist rolls in, and shadows and fog.
Sounds so much better than my day schedule today. Wish I could trade, the only good thing about today is that its FRIED DAY!!
    DD

  36. How cold has it actually been? As in what kind of degree figures are we talking?
(I thought I should make that specific in case you tried to get away with a “really cold” answer).

I’m wondering about this “green tea latte” business. Is it green tea with milk? I’m not sure how that would taste… Mind you, someone tried to sell me some sort of cinnamon faux coffee today, which looked like more cream than coffee and the sample tasted like more cinnamon than coffee (once I bypassed the cream).

  37. Hello Joseph!!! Merci pour ces super photos!

Oh j’ai mal dormie cette nuit, en plus j’ai rater mon réveille et je détéste sa.Encore 3 jours et je reprend les cours..et oui deja, mais il faut bien reprendre un jours^^!!

    Question:

Une Fan vous à deja demandez en mariage?

Bon, passez une bonne journée! je vous adore ♥♥Bisou

  38. In defense of Joe M’s picture taking… not that he needs it, but… didn’t I see a picture of Sheppard kneeling on the floor with his hands behind his back surrounded by Wraith – or A Wraith and a bunch of worshippers I imagine. Umm, Wraith worshippers not Sheppard worshippers. *chuckles* just wanted to be clear on that scene I saw or thought I saw.

And just so you know, Joe… I thought Vengeance (Season 3) was one of the scariest episodes ever so I’m really anxious to see Whispers. There’s just something about scary music, nighttime and FOG that makes it chilling…

Thanks Joe, for all you do to keep us entertained, even with everything else you have to do.

Okay 1) how’s the eye? healing?
    2) did you ever get out of the van? and did the driver bring you back to the office when he realized you were still with him?

  39. Such suspicion over the lack of Joe F pictures! You should just keep stringing everyone along. 🙂

And after seeing so many pictures of him, I’m now fairly certain, but need to ask: has Paul McGillion lost a lot of weight?

  40. syble4 Said:

    Hear, hear!

I can understand the occasional request here and there. But honestly, I imagine that Joe is perfectly aware that there are a multitude of fans adoring each one of the actors he works with. You want pictures of Joe F, I wouldn’t mind pics of Jason, Kavan, Rachael or even more of Paul. However, it seems that you are failng to realize that he doesn’t have to take pictures at all, but takes time out of his hectic schedule to bring us little tidbits of stargate-y goodness. We should all thank our lucky stars that someone is taking the time to talk to us rather than picking him apart over him spending time on HIS episode and taking pictures of the actors that are at hand. It seems to me that there should be less whining and more gratitude.

Thank you Joe for all of your hard work on the show and afterward in this blog. I recognize how difficult it must be to juggle it all and I want you to know I appreciate the effort. This blog is the best way to start my day.

  41. I looked at the System Lords line-up for Continuum, and it was different than the normal line-up since Ra was still alive and such. Is it true there are only seven System Lords at a time, and after one is killed another one replaces him? It is very interesting to see how things would have turned out with the System Lords if Ra wasn’t killed.

Oh I needed that laugh, just going to clean up the mess now. Cheers!
Could I ask for more pup pics please? and more to the point will you take ’em and put ’em up?

  43. Right I’ve had my fun for the day, now back upstairs to finish clearing out the spare room and throw some paint around ready for me to move back upstairs.

  44. I am hoping you can answer my question. The Ark of Truth took place after Season 10 of SG1, and Season 4 of Atlantis took place after The Ark of Truth. The time line would suggests that Season 5 takes place after Season 4. If this is true, then shouldn’t the Science staff of Atlantis be able to use the Asgaurd technology on the Daedalus to scan a ZPM and create new ones?

He can’t afford a meal every day anymore 😉

Because Amanda Tapping cares about the fans, the others are just in it for the money 😉

  47. I definitely feel for you having to be outside in the cold, Joe. I’m not a fan of cold weather…at all. Although, I have heard that you ‘keep better’ if you live someplace where it’s cold a lot of the time. I’m not buying it though.

I was curious if Martin Gero will also be directing the mid-season 2-parter? Also, there was a report out of Germany that Michael would be filming “Atlantis” in June. Can you confirm that, Joe?

I hope your eye is continuing to improve. Thanks again for taking the time to post pictures for us.

    dff

  48. Just wondering…

If part 1 of a two parter episode is written by one person, is the second part written by that person as well?

Thanks Joe…glad Whispers is going well.

  49. Love the pics – ooh, another one of Paul… *drifts off into a dream world*

    How’s the eye? Any better?

    Leesa Perrie

  50. Ahh the pics are welcome, as always. 🙂 I will weigh in with my opinion and say I agree with those who have said people need to chill out on demanding certain pics, etc. and be grateful we get any at all. There’s no need to be whiny or rude; a simple “thank you” for behind-the-scenes shots will suffice.

Got anythin’ exciting goin’ on for the weekend? lol Hope it’s a good one, whatever comes.

SGA Question: How often does the special effects crew use minatures or models for shots? I know you guys have done a lotta fantastic CGI, but just curious about models and miniatures. 🙂

  51. From the pics it looks like the four “Whispers” actresses really bonded after all the gunplay, cold sets and free-flowing chocolate at your party. Does it now seem more certain that we’ll see this new team in future eps or maybe even in a spin-off?

  52. Hi there!

While in the midst of the marathon SGA watching I am doing, I was fascinated with “Misbegotten”.

Watching with a completely different perspective now (S3: Sunday, S4: Carson’s return), and the dialogue has SUCH a marked direction pointing to the later revelation in S4 that Michael left the planet with a way to make a Carson clone during this eppy.

Not sure if you all planned it this way all along but I love when one can go back and the multiple plot elements weave together seamlessly.

    Quotes that are so prescient:
Carson: “There must be a reason you’re keeping me alive!”
    […]
Michael: “You underestimate your own value, Doctor.”
    […]
Micahel: “You’re exactly what I need. Now, let’s begin.”

Then, Carson is unconscious when they retrieve him…

    And:

Wraith: “Should we search for the prisoner?” (menaing Carson)
Michael: “No…in any case he served his purpose…”

    Soooo cool.

    =D

  53. Looking at the great picture of Paul, maybe that stasis chamber has Amazing Weight Loss capabilities, you could market it to the world!

  54. Joe, thanks, as always, for the pics.

@ all the people reading these comments
    About the Joe Flanigan pics:
I think many asked for Joe Flanigan pics because we got quite a bunch of them during s4, so some of us expected to see some more during the shooting of s5 and wondered why we weren’t getting any this year.
I kept asking until Mallozzi here said he wouldn’t post pics of JF. I appreciate his answer.
In the past, Mallozzi said that he always asked for permission before taking pics of an actor/actress. If the person said no, he didn’t take any pic of him/her.

I’ve never been to a convention, but I remember reading a con report late last year where a fan said she had printed one of the pics of JF from this blog and asked him to sign it. JF did sign it but, according to this fan, he seemed surprised someone had that pic and had printed it.
I wasn’t there and I obviously don’t know Mr Flanigan. But maybe he didn’t realize fans could print these behind the scene pics from a blog (some people don’t know much about blogs, Internet, etc) and maybe he feels uncomfortable about it. In the end, it doesn’t matter whatever his reasons are for not wanting behind-the-scenes pics of him appearing on a blog. He doesn’t want to, and all of us should respect that.

What is your favourite all time movie? and What types of Movies do you like to watch?

I love Classic Comedy Buster Keaton Films, Chaplin Films, Laurel and Hardy, Stooges.

  56. Joe, I know you have nothing to do with cast promo pics, etc. But you’re the only person from TPTB I know how to contact through this blog… So for better or worse… 😀

I’m not an SG-1 fan, but I’ve seen some promo pics of the SG-1 team alone on the web.

However, we haven’t gotten any promo pics of the SGA team alone. In all the group shots, there are always other characters there, like the CMO, the base commander, etc. Nothing against those characters and the actors who portray them. I love all the characters. But I think it would be nice to get some s5 promo pics with only the team: John, Ronon, Rodney and Teyla (or Joe, Jason, David and Rachel, if you see those pics as pics of the cast rather than the characters).
I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be pics of the whole cast. I’d love to have pics of all six of them as always. But some official photos of the main team together, the 4 characters/actors that make the main team, would be nice, in my opinion. And not just a Photoshop job with all the characters taken from other/individual promo pics put together, but an actual photo of the team together…

    Hey, Lily:

We actually have some of these and will be posting them soon on stargatehub.com. They do exist from past seasons and have been posted in the past on some fan sites (I can try and track those down for you, contact me offline at feedback@stargatehub.com).

Also, I am sure there are some fans here (Shirt’n’Tie, PG-15, AG, etc.) who may be able to point you in the direction of some good fan archives’ sites.

    Thanks,
    Jenny S.

P.S. Joe, hope it was OK to answer this one!!

  58. Kangaroo meat, chocolate fests, and moose sausages…I can assure you this is not the blog to visit when suffering from food poisoning.

So, with “Inquisition” the expedition finally gets some grief for their past mistakes? Looking forward to it already. I don’t like to see the team get ragged on all the time, but I thought the Michael storyline was a good example of how “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” type of stories can work very well in the Atlantis format.

  60. Ahem. Sorry for so many posts from me today. I’ll post this and shut up then… until tomorrow 😀

Shado said: “Hey Joe, just saw over on GateWorld that Amanda is doing 4 commentaries on the season 4 SGA DVDs and none of the other actors are doing any. She was also the only actor to do any commentaries on the SG1 season 10 DVDs. Were any of the rest of the main cast of SGA asked and opted not to do one or did you guys only ask Amanda?”

I’m an Atlantis only fan, so I have no idea what the other SG-1 actors were doing and how busy they were. I don’t follow their careers. But the SGA actors had been busy with filming Atlantis (and other projects during the shooting hiatus between s4 and s5). Actors and crew have said that they tend to work around 12 hours every day while shooting Atlantis. Some times more than 12 hours. And they have families. For example, Joe Flanigan said many times that he commutes every weekend to be with his wife and kids during the weekends, since they live in LA. Jason, Rachel and David had all kids last year.

Now, I realize that Amanda Tapping has also a family and other projects, but her working schedule was lighter than the rest of the cast’s schedules. Amanda said that she would have more time off to spend with her family because she was only scheduled for four days per episode on Atlantis and that was perfect for her. I guess she was the only one who had enough time to record audio commentaries then.

Between family, working 12 hours per day and other projects/personal life, I don’t see when the other actors would’ve had time to record audio commentaries for the DVDs. They are not robots. They have lives like all of us 😉

  61. They have lives like all of us

Some might say they have better lives than most of us 😉

  62. Coucou, sa va depuis ce matin? =)

  63. Hi Joe!

I know you were incredibly busy last week and didn’t get a chance to do much mailbag…so at the risk of being redundant, I’ll ask again if we’re going to be treated to another fantastic Joel Goldsmith full orchestral score for Continuum as we were with AoT? (And any chance we’ll hear the Sam/Jack theme on it? 😉 )

And sweet! July for SGA S5!!! Wow. It’s gonna be a fabulous Stargate kinda month!!!! Can’t wait! 😀

  64. Just curious?

When you are snapping pictures of cast/crew and other people on the set, do you let them know you will be posting them on your blog? To you ask folks if it’s Ok to shoot the pics? I wouldn’t exactly call the SGA set a “public place” where someone might get snapped. Have you ever had anyone politely ask you not to post their picture? And if so, have you just obliged their request, or have you negotiated some comprimise, or just said, screw it they’re my pictures and my site?

  65. You write so much about getting up early… Is this Lynn Valley very far from the studios?

  66. Do you think we will ever see the remains or a completly intact ancient shipyard?

  67. Since I’m having a similar discussion with PG15 over at Gateworld, I’d thought I just ask…

Isn’t it hypocritical for humans to complain about Wraith killing humans for food, since humans kill their fellow humans all the time, and often for much less? So, until humans stop killing each other over petty little things, how can they condemn the Wraith for killing out of a need to feed?

Michael is a good example – the closer to human he becomes, the more death and destruction he metes out. In effect, Michael shows us that it is as much human nature – as it is Wraith nature – to kill (this is touched upon slightly in Common Ground, but in another context). The difference being that Wraith primarily kill to eat, whereas humans – and now Michael – kill out of anger and hate and revenge and fear…not quite as justifiable as satisfying a real, physical hunger.

So, I ask, will humans (specifically the Lanteans) ever accept the fact that they are just like – if not worse than – the Wraith when it comes to dealing with (and killing), not just others, but even their own? Will such a realization help them, in turn, appreciate the difference between the Wraith’s biological need to feed, and someone (Wraith or human) who just kills for the sake of killing (kinda like how Shep murdered Bob… 😡 … )?

And yeah, I know I promised to bri…I mean…send you chocolates before I asked another question…but, alas…time will not allow me to elaborate on the difficulties of locating a rare and unique sweet that has yet to excite your palate. Maybe next time… 😉

  68. Oh, and PS: Iron Man ROCKED!!! WAIT FOR AFTER THE CREDITS – there is a scene at the end…

    😀

  69. Isn’t it hypocritical for humans to complain about Wraith killing humans for food, since humans kill their fellow humans all the time, and often for much less?

Only if said humans complaining were also responsible for the killing.

  70. Das: THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! 😀

I will wait for a scene at the end of Ironman. I hate not knowing. I’ve sat through so many credits and missed out. ((((HUGS)))) to you for that!

    Trish

  71. Hey shado,

It’s because Amanda is made of awesome. If Joe Flanigan or Jay Momoa or even Ben Browder could be made of half as much awesome as Amanda they might do some commentaries. But they’re not. Hey, if everyone were made of that much awesome, it wouldn’t be special, and there’s no doubt that Stargate used up it’s allotment of awesome on the original SG1 cast. So there you go.

  72. Good Morning Joe,

Will Michael Shanks be scheduled for any more episodes than the two mid seaon ones?

    Thank you

    Ohulan

  74. Loving the pics as always! 🙂

Thanks so much Joe for taking the time to share the whole “Whispers” experience with us. I’ve throughly enjoyed all the pics/vids/stories of your time on this episode. It’s much appreciated.

  75. Hey ‘Miss Missy’,

Maybe you should found out the facts before you cast any judgements.

  76. hmmmm. I’m new to WordPress and stumbled on this blog. What brave new world is this? At first I thought it was about a show that I’m not familiar with, but which sounds interesting. Then as I skipped through the archive, I figured you were food critics, chefs and/or dog trainers. True Renaissance man.
