At the beginning of every season, the writers get together and brainstorm story ideas for the coming year. We sit in a room, eat Chinese take-out, and spin, pitching out and discussing notions that are eventually listed up on the whiteboard with placeholder titles. Sometimes, these placeholder titles stick, as in the case of season 5’s Search and Rescue and Ghost in the Machine. More often than not, however, they’re discarded in favor of better titles, which is why the Gateworld Forum Episode threads never encouraged discussion on the likes of: Beckett Returns (aka The Seed), Sequel to Reunion/The Return of Tyre (Broken Ties), Flowers for McKay (The Shrine), Heist (First Contact), Monolith (The Lost Tribe), or CSI: Atlantis (Vegas). Or did they? Anyway, by season’s end, there are always a handful of story ideas that didn’t make the final cut for whatever reason (ie. similarities to other stories being developed, production issues, the other writers are all jealous of you and purposely kill your ideas so that they can look better by comparison, etc.). Rather than being abandoned, these ideas are filed away, the likelihood of their receiving future consideration dependent on a host of variables such as a fresh approach to the original pitch, fortuitous circumstances that dictate the need for serious re-evaluation, and, of course, sheer desperation on our part.

Well, after the episode slots for season 5 were filled several months ago, I started a potential season 6 list that was made up of some of the story ideas that didn’t make the cut. The list was comprised of only three or four titles at first but then, as time went on, additional titles were added, some in jest, some in hopeful earnestness. At the end of the day, even though it was all for naught, it proved a fascinating exercise in masochistic optimism.

All this to say, it’s easy to put titles up on a whiteboard. What’s hard is coming up with the stories to go with them. Of the two title/ideas we put up under the Season 6 heading, how many would have actually made it to the small screen? Most? No way. Some? Unlikely? One, maybe two? Well, stranger things have happened. Remember Childhood’s End and Irresponsible?

For what it’s worth, here is how season 6 would have probably (not) broken down:

#1 and #2: Now What I and II?: Our big two-part premiere would have picked up where we’d left off after the shocking events of our fifth season finale: Enemy at the Gate. Would have picked up? What am I saying? WILL pick up since the idea originally conceived for the opening two-parter will now be the basis of the first Stargate: Atlantis movie, the difference being that we’ll be able to tell our story on a much bigger, visual effects-laden, character-centered canvas.

#3: Children of the Corn/Fantastic Four: This was a story I pitched early in season 5 that involved our team, on the Daedalus, coming across a seemingly derelict ship. They board and, while searching the darkened interior, discover a group of children in stasis. They revive the kids who explain they were enroute to a planet where they were to be reunited with their parents, colonists who had completed work on a new satellite community. The children are welcomed aboard and are being ferried to their destination when a mystery ship appears and opens fire on the Daedalus. Our heroes try to outpace their pursuer and, as a game of intergalactic cat and mouse ensues, the team begins to suspect that their young passengers may not be as innocent and harmless as they appear…

#4: Carl’s Replicator Story: If there are two subjects that Carl Binder embraces more than any others, it’s ghosts and replicators (see: Progeny, The Real World, Phanthoms, Echoes, Lifeline, Ghost in the Machine to name a few), so we simply assumed that when he returned from winter hiatus, he’d have a script for us that focused either one or the other. The placeholder title is Carl’s Replicator Story but it could just as easily have been Carl’s Ghost Story.

#5: Classic Atlantis: Marty G. wanted to do a story that took place in the early years of the Atlantis expedition, sort of a flashback to an adventure we’d never seen (along the lines of the Lost SG-1 Episode Rob had discussed doing years back). Given Torri’s reluctance to reprise the role of Elizabeth Weir in Ghost in the Machine (after all, the whole point of doing the episode would have been to reconnect with some familiar faces) and Paul‘s reluctance to do a flashback episode that begged the question “Why the hell DIDN‘T we see this in season one?”, the story was shelved.

#6: Carter Rashomon: This was a story idea that didn’t make the cut in season 4 and ended up in the season 5 slush pile despite the fact that Carter was no longer the base commander. It was originally envisioned as our spin on Kurosawa’s 1950 classic. Colonel Carter faces a possible court-martial and dismissal after an off-world op goes awry. During the ensuing investigation, we are offered three different flashback versions of the charged events. What happened and what was she being accused of? Guess we’ll never know. Since it didn’t make the cut in season 5, I moved it into the potential season 6 episode discussion list.

#7: The Red Shirt Diaries: Carl wanted to do a story told from the POV of a red shirt, one of those ubiquitous no-names we lose over the course of various off-world ops who are instantly mourned then quickly forgotten in the episode tag when the team is yukking it up in the cafeteria. In this particular episode, Carl posits the possibility that this supposed red shirt aint so red after all and, rather than being killed in the line of duty, is captured. Of course, Stargate teams have a standing “No man left behind” policy and it isn’t long before Sheppard and co. mount a rescue op…

#8: Sheppard D.O.A.: Hey, remember the brilliant thriller starring Edmond O’Brien as a man who had been poisoned and had only a few days to find out who killed him and why? No? Remember the actioner starring Jason Statham as a man who has been poisoned (by a drug that will kill him if his heart rate drops) and has a limited amount of time to seek out some answers and dole out revenge? Yes? Well, close enough. It’s a great premise that would have been fun to do – seeing Sheppard race to uncover the truth about who afflicted him and why – except for a couple of problems. First, we were already doing an episode in which one of our characters is afflicted and living on borrowed time (qv The Shrine). Secondly, what made the original DOA so great (and Crank interesting) was that our protagonists were doomed. The light at the end of the tunnel wasn’t a cure. It was nothing more than the answer to great mystery. Well, the answer to a great mystery and, quite literally, a light at the end of the tunnel.

#9: The Replacements: Brad pitched out a story in which the team run afoul of an alien race and, while being pursued, end up victims of a temporal effect that catapults them six months into the future. They return to Atlantis to find they’ve been given up for dead and replaced. As they attempt to settle in to their new positions (and work with their replacements) the alien race indirectly responsible for their predicament pays Atlantis a visit…

#10 and #11: Mid-season two parter: Had we received that sixth season pick-up, we would have inevitably tossed around ideas for a big season arc or two. Atlantis ends up trapped in a pocket of space-time that completely cuts them off from Earth? With the help of some mysterious allies, the wraith become a resurgent threat to the Pegasus Galaxy? When the Atlantis Expedition becomes the target of some well-executed attacks, it becomes clear to all that a former friend is out for revenge? You pick. Whatever the big season arc, we would have undoubtedly touched upon it here.

#12: Hamster Ball: Sometimes you come up with an idea fully formed. Other times, it may be nothing but a vision. In this case, a vision of the individual team members trapped in giant hamster ball-like containment vessels. How do they get trapped? How do they get out? And, most importantly, what the hell else happens in this episode? You’ll have to ask Alan.

#13: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: McKay’s experiments with a time-traveling puddle jumper send the team both backwards and forwards in time. The story jumps from five years into the past (where one version of the team struggles to acquire the puddle jumper and undo the damage done without affecting the time line), five years into the future (where the wraith have taken over Atlantis and another version of the team is attempting to acquire the jumper so that they can warn their past selves), and the present (unaffected team) with developments in each timeline influencing events in the other. At the end of the day, despite my detailed, color-coded outline, everybody else’s head threatened to explode so the story was shelved.

#14: Hexed: Ah, the infamous Sheppard story that didn’t make the cut, much to the chagrin of the whumpers. While visiting a primitive off-world village, Sheppard is cursed by a resident witch. At first, Shep and co. laugh off the incident – until Sheppard runs into a spate of bad luck. Very bad luck! Suddenly, the team isn’t so sure what is going on and their search for answers turns up some very alarming complications. A fun premise that we shelved because, at the end of the day and despite being played for laughs, it would have painted Sheppard in a comical and potentially unheroic light, something that wouldn’t have sat well with Joe.

#15: Entropy: Paul wanted to do a story in which the effects of the McKay-Miller gate bridge have serious other-worldly repercussions for the city. As it turns out, we ended up doing an episode in which the McKay-Miller gate bridge ends up having serious all-too-worldly repercussions for a bunch of stranded scientists in season 5’s Brain Storm.

#16: Revenge: A certain alien race seeks revenge on Atlantis after we screw up their plans (qv that season 5 episode in which we screw up the plans of that alien race).

#17: Payback: Not to be confused with Revenge. A certain individual seeks payback on Atlantis after we screw up said individual’s plans (qv that season 5 episode in which we screw up that individual’s plans).

#18: Turn of Events 2: Okay, there was no original Turn Of Events. Almost – but not really. Years ago, we bought a freelance pitch from a writer who suggested the aforementioned title for the episode. Seriously. Turn of Events? Why not Suspense to Climax? Or A Teaser and Five Acts in Focus? Or The Happening? The fact that we didn’t use it notwithstanding, it proved such a popular title within the writing department that Alan thought it only right that we include it in the season-that-never-was mix.

#19: Pre-finale: Remember that big season-long arc we discussed earlier in the year? Well, this episode sets up the big pay-off.

#20: Finale: Our big VFX-studded season finale sees the pay-off to that significant story arc, the answers to lingering questions, a few surprises, and the cliff-hanger ending that will smoothly segue into our season 7 premiere…

Some further thoughts on Sarah Langan’s The Missing:

Antisocialbutterflie writes: “I loved the slow build of suspense through the tension of the characters rather than the overall description of the actions. It made me feel more attached to the characters, their lives, and their decline.”

Answer: Which goes to what I was saying about the importance of creating characters the audience (be they readers or viewers) can connect with. Like you, I loved the fact that, as events developed, we weren’t simply served up a blow by blow description of events. Rather, we experienced the horrifying developments through characters, predator and victim alike.

Antisoscialbutterflie also writes: “Fenstad (whose name I loved) was a whole different kettle of fish. He added a whole different dimension to the story in that he wasn’t infected but he still broke down and became homicidal. His madness was natural rather than a result of the infection. I thought it provided a nice counterpoint to the insanity of the virus.”

Answer: Yes, that was very interesting. It leads one to wonder how many would become totally unhinged when faced with such a scenario. Courage or insanity, there’s strength to be derived from both.

Antisocialbutterflie also writes: “ The virus was totally cool. It was manipulative, constantly keeping everyone off guard, and it was adaptable, recognizing it situation and adjusting to not only survive but thrive. It was sneaky and insidious, and evil, and awesome.”

Answer: And, again, that’s what I found so frightening. At least in the case of regular zombies, you have the mental edge. In the case of the virus in The Missing, your matching wits with neighbors, friends, and family members who, in the end, may know you better than you know yourself.

Iamza writes: “I was initially put off by the complete unlikeability of James Walker, who struck me as a somewhat stereotypical bad kid with no redeeming qualities.”

Answer: We never really learned as much about James as we did the other flawed characters in the book (since he was compromised so early) so it didn’t really bother me that much. Had he stuck around a little longer, I’m sure we would have found out a little more and, if not sympathized with him, then at least understood him a little better.

Iamza also writes: “I really liked that, in this novel, none of the characters is particularly good, and with the exception of James, none of them is all bad.”

Answer: True. They’re alternately likable and loathsome – just like regular people.

Iamza also writes: “I also wondered a bit as to how the darkness spread so quickly across the world. I mean, the infected seemed to turn very quickly, and I couldn’t really see how they’d get on a plane without arousing suspicions…especially once they started trying to eat the other passengers. Perhaps I misread, though, and it was a purely North American phenomenon.”

Answer: Hmmm. I never really thought about it but now that you bring it up, that’s a very good point. The outbreak did spread very quickly, even if it was limited to the United States.

Terry writes: “ . Since we jumped from one sightly off-balance character to another, I found it difficult to engage with the characters or to care much when things started to unravel.”

Answer: Certainly there were some characters I liked more than others, but I couldn’t help but sympathize with, say, Meg, despite her affair and marital issues, and Lila, despite the fact that she killed and dismembered her own children. I appreciate colorful characters.

  1. Wow, thanks for the rundown. I have to say, some of those would have been great to see. The classic Atlantis story, if something could have been worked out, was a great idea. That would have been a lot of fun. The Redshirt Diaries… man, I’ve been hoping you guys would do a story about one of the nameless peons for years, so I would have loved that. The Replacements sounds terribly interesting, too. And Hamster Ball… *snerk*… I have no idea, but it gives me giggles just imagining it.

“Turn of Events” reminds me of the movie “All I Want”. It was originally called “Try Seventeen”, which was at least a somewhat more interesting title. I keep thinking of “All I Want” as “What I Want”, which is only slightly worse in the way that it could pretty much be the title of any movie ever. What is with TPTB wanting to change weird but interesting titles into boring crap that says nothing? Like when they brought “Treed Murray” to America and decided that American audiences couldn’t handle it, so they changed it to “Get Down”.

  2. “the McKay-Miller gate bridge”? Some weird combination of the McKay-Carter Intergalactic Gate Bridge and the McKay-Miller Universe Bridge?

  3. Carter Roshomon! Why not Sheppard Roshomon? Not that it matters; whichever character the story revolved around would have been great. What are the chances that we may see one or more of these stories in movie form, on the probably optimistic premise that MGM and Sci Fi will indeed give us more than a single movie? Thanks for the great breakdown on the “might have beens”. Besides Roshomon, I think Hamsterball would have been my favorite. At least until the next episode would have appeared.. Now, are we not due for another peek at the pups? Not that I want to be greedy or anything….

  4. Yay, thanks Joe. I think Yesterday, today and tomorrow would have been a neat episode. I like the episodes with time travel or flashbacks/flashforwards. (Tabula Rasa and the Last Man were two of my favourites of last season).

First Contact was an amazing episode and I can’t wait until the Lost Tribe. I saw the spoiler video (because I couldn’t wait) and all it did was give me more questions.

I’ll be starting the Traveler Thanksgiving weekend as I don’t have anything due at school that week. I want to start it now but have to study for my chem midterm tomorrow (midterms already!?!?, school just started!) and have papers due next week.

  5. Ok well, no suprise here, I would go with #8 and just make it that they end up finding a cure so he lives. As I am a weekly movie viewer, I have seen both shows and if the second one is the one I think it is, I was not ready for how he keeps his heart beat up (lol). Yup, my friend and I looked at each other and then her husband, it was strange and awkward if it is the show I am thinking of.

Also I would still go with #14. Everyone has to get a good laugh at themselves even my favorite sheppard. Really, you think Joe F. would of had a problem with the comic relief of the episode? Don’t get me wrong, I love him as the hero more than not, but I also like a good laugh.

  6. I have to say, some of those suggested story pitches sound quite interesting. The Carter Rashomon and the Red Shirt Dairies episodes to mention a couple. Just one more reason to mourn the loss of SGA….

Have any decisions been made yet as to when production might start on any of the movies? And do you know if there plans to release them on dvd soon after their SciFi broadcast or would there be a typical 4-6 month wait? For those of us who don’t get SciFi.

Oh, and further congrats on what is turning out to be a very entertaining Season 5!

  7. Oooo, I’m a HUGE Sam fan, I would have LOVED to have seen Carter Rashoman. Too bad we’ll never know what happens.

Thanks for going into detail about those eps. Loved hearing about them!

  8. Oh man. I would’ve loved to see Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. I’m sucker for time travel episode, and the more twists and turns in them, the better. The act of figuring it all out separates the normal people from the geniuses, like myself. Though I think I would’ve included 1 or 2 more time frames that were REALLY far from the present, like 1,000,000,000 years into the future. Imagining tracing the cause and effect of the events of Atlantis to that far into the future! It can result in virtually anything!

I remember you talking about it around the time Ripple Effect premiered, and though I understood at the time that it was a tad similar, it’s been a while since then and I would totally go for an extremely screwy-yet-ultimately-mostly-logical time travel episode.

Moebius was nice, but it needed more knots in the timeline. Seriously. The more the better. The fact that this episode may have that saddens me greatly that we won’t see it.

    Maybe for Universe?

Oh, and Hamster Ball would’ve totally been the Awesome. Alan clearly has a gift for writing.

  9. Season 6 would have been so amazing! I always wanted to see from the perspective of a minor character–The Red Shirt Dairy would have been perfect. (Maybe I’be also been hoping for a Zelenka and/or Lorne centric episode.)

  10. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us some ideas that were being considered for season 6 (if it were to occur). My heart skipped a beat when I saw the season 6 title, it took a minute for the AU part to really sink in. 🙁

It’s bittersweet to hear of the episodes that are never meant to be. Out of all of them, I’d have loved to see the Carter court martial one play out. The second on the list would be the witch cursing Sheppard, because it would definitely have tremendous potential to be one of the most entertaining episodes in SGA with the witty lines, which we love, to the well written action and drama.

Carter and Sheppard are my two favorite characters in the whole SG series. They really draw you in to the show and their characters’ emotional depths the best. So, maybe I’m a little biased on my episode opinion.

I guess it’s really time to say that SGA is truly ending as a series. *sniffle*

Those were brilliant ideas, and it’s such a shame that we won’t get to see them all come to life.

I say…All Abroad the Alternate Universe Express!

I would not mind if SG – Universe stood for SG1, SGA, and the new series combined. Or at least SGA for 13 episodes and SGU for 13 episodes. Ghost Hunters does this sort of thing with their Ghost Hunters main show and GHI (their international show). Each series shows for half a season. 😀 Best of both worlds!

    Anyway, thanks for everything!

  11. I enjoy those time travel episodes, so here’s hoping Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow is seen sometime in the future. Universe perhaps?

  12. Let me start by saying that so far I’ve managed to read “pocket of space-time” as “pocket book time”, “turn of events” as “turn off vents”, and “what I want” in the comments as “Wal-Mart”. I’m doing well with the whole reading comprehension thing today.

That aside, some of those ideas sound intriguing. I like the Children of the Corn/Fantastic Four story. I have three nieces that are 6, 4, and 3. I know children are not as harmless as they appear EVER.

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow would have been fun to watch. I probably wouldn’t have understood a damn thing going on, but I’d have enjoyed it.

And I really had hope for the Red Shirt Diaries. It’s a shame we won’t be seeing that one.

  13. Oh… I just read yesterday’s post. So you ARE mad at me. But I’m OK with that. You are just jealous because I’m totally fabulous.

Or maybe I ask super-annoying questions and make really irritating remarks. I’m just glad we cleared the air between us. You can be mad at me. I’m totallly fine with that. And I’m not crying right now. I just have something in my eye.

Also: Narelle: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know it’s late but I still hope it was great. 😀

And Becky: (((((hugs)))))) to you. I’ve been thinking about you all week. You have my e-mail if you want to talk.

  14. Hi Joe!

Sorry, it’s less than two minutes since I last wrote, but it’s getting late and I wanna get some sleep.

Thanks for the breakdown of the Season That’ll Never Be. They sound like interesting stories, especially The Red Shirt Diaries, Sheppard D.O.A., The Replacements, and Hexed. Heck, even at his most comical and unheroic, Shep is always sexy and heroic. It’s how he rolls. 🙂

CotC/FF reminds me a lot of that Star Trek ep, ‘And the Children Shall Lead.’ Rather creepy ep. Any show with creepy kids is just creepy. Kinda like that really cool SGA ep we recently saw, Whispers. Boy, was that creepy!!

Other cool names that’d work with Turn of Events might be:

The Bad Guy Gets Killed at the End

The Good Guys Always Win (even in the ’80s!)

The Big Surprise Ending When McKay Gets His Hand Cut Off

    Plot Twist #42

    Have a superb night, eh?

In Crank the main character’s name is Chev. Cool! I looked up a review to see what you meant about keeping his heart rate up, as I had a few ideas. Yep, looks like that wasn’t all he kept up. LOL!

Regarding Hexed, I love some Shep Whumping but I don’t think he should be ridiculed and I think there’s a difference between laughing with a character and laughing at a character. I wouldn’t have wanted the episode to ruin all of the fantastic work that Joe F and the writers had done. I’m looking forward to Remnants. Of course they wouldn’t have to go with Hexed as a comedy.

    Cheers, Chev

  16. I agree with the majority: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow would have been a great episode. It could have been tweeked to become the mid-season two parter. It might even be something that could become an upcoming Atlantis movie. Time travel is cool. Time travel on Atlantis is even better.

  17. “carter rashomon”….

aah, i want to know what happened!!

    thanks, joe, for the what-might-have-beens.

    🙂

  18. I would have truly loved to see Red Shirt Diaries, it is always fascinating to me to see how the main characters are perceived by the people around them.
And Hexed would have been fun, I’m sure you could have made Shep heroically comedic and preserve the dignity of the character. But I always liked the way Shep wasn’t portrayed as the uber hero, can’t remember which episode it was in, but when he tried to break the stick over his knee like Teyla did and just ended up whacking himself, I loved it.
Turn of Events sounds so dopey it probably would have been great.
And I’d pay good money to see everyone, most specially Ronon and Woolsey for some reason, in Hamster Balls, with the Hamster dance song playing in the background. Da do da da

  19. Thanks for sharing the never-to-be-seen epsiodes =)

For a moment there, I thought you were gonna spoil the movie… but only for a moment…

re#12: I actually had a dream once that I got stuck in a hamster ball… it was quite alarming, actually!

  20. Hey Joe,

I definitely would like to see “The Replacements” and “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”. I find those ideas VERY interesting. Too bad we couldn’t see them play out :(.

How did the spinning session go for the new Atlantis movie? Any teasers?

  21. So many good ideas. Such a shame. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow sounds like one of those episodes I would buy the entire box set for. I love time travel episodes. Despite it giving me a headache if I think about it too much.

I’ve tracked down and have in my hot little hands (well my Reader hard drive) a bunch of recommended time travel novels, I’m feeling in the mood for some confusion… more so than usual. Just thinking about reading those 8 novels could be the cause of this 2 day nasty-arse headache.

Thanks Trish – it turned out to be a great day.
I’m going to post some pics/video on my blog soon of the arcade machine in action that Hubby got me. It’s sooooo much fun. I went to sleep the other night to the sounds of Frogger coming from the lounge. It was strangely soothing. I have a sneaking suspicion he wanted this as much as I did.

  22. book recommendation
the “rachel morgan” book series by kim harrison. the author has a good and twisted sense of humor. its set on earth about 10 yrs into the future and there has been a plague that decimates a good portion of the human population, leaving the non-human or almost human population mostly untouched. altho, i think the elves are mostly killed off. the plague starts from genetically modified tomatoes, so its a banned substance now. so there goes all the good pizza and no ketchup. can u imagine a future w/out marinara sauce? anyway, with so much of the human population dead, the others decide its time to step forward. the humans have now tended to move into the cities and the others have taken more toward the out edges, kind of like vampires in the suburbs. they’ve created parallel societies and there are the equivalent of 2 police depts, the other’s is called Inderland Security. the main characters are a witch, a vampire and a fairy. they decide to leave there current employment with IS and start their own detective, security agency. in an abandoned church, that has a ley line running thru the kitchen and its own cemetery and garden perfect for the fairy and his large family. at one point, they are looking for a large fish, stolen from an aquarium of a werewolf group and its their mascot. also, they run into a leprechaun and each get their own wish. the fairy asks for a vasectomy, because fairies breed like … i don’t know, mice, cockroaches… and he’s finding the 200 kids he has already more than enough. did i mention that all her book titles are take offs of clint eastwood movies? “dead witch walking”, ” a fistful of charms” and the last one, ” the outlaw demon wails”.

there is also lots of death and destruction, blackmarket salsa, evil and bus tokens.

  23. Thank you for the birthday wish! Also thank you for that peek into the sadly nonexistent season 6. The Carter Rashomon story sounds really interesting especially since I loved the CSI episode that they also based on the movie, and I’d have certainly enjoyed seeing how Alan wrote a story based on hamster balls 🙂

  24. I wonder how long it will take before a group of fanfic writers get together and write the missing 6th season using your rundown of episodes as a guide.

    I’d read it!

    Cheers, Chev

  25. Ah, man, I wanna season six more than ever. The visual of Hamster Ball just boggles. And i still want Hexed, as a comedy or a drama!

I’m still living in denial about the end of the series but I’m slowly accepting it *sob*. But harkening back to your earlier post I will keep an open mind and will give SGU a fair shot. There’s not enough good SF TV on that we can afford to negatively prejudge and scuttle something potentially wonderful.

Thanks again for so many wonderful years. Looking forward to more!

  26. This cancellation is still insanity to me. I am starting to hate Sci Fi. Are the writers good with this cancellation? I am just very upset about this. I’m not getting over it fast.

  27. Thank you, Joe, for posting this list. A lot of the ideas sound great. For the ones we won’t see on screen, could they be turned into novels? I believe there is an official publishing programme through Fandemonium … this could keep them in story lines for years!

All the best with the future.

  28. Do you still have the detailed, color-coded outline for the episode “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow?” I would love to see how complicated the outline got. Sounds like it would of been a great episode.

  29. Oh I think I would have liked Sheppard DOA rather than Hexed. That seems more appealing to a whumper!! Could have been lots of collapsing maybe???????

Oh I am excited thinking about it – even though it will never happen 🙁

  30. Oh I forgot to add that Sheppard DOA sounds a little like A Coffin For Starsky which is most fans fave ever S&H episode ( and mine too) despite really being a Hutch whumper.

  31. I think The Replacements sounds intriguing–my only concern is whether one episode could do the story justice. Hexed sounds fun as well. I can just see Sheppard struggling to keep his temper and his “dignity.” Heroes don’t have to be heroic all the time.

When can the Mallozzi Memoirs be expected? All the “true” stories, exposes, and recipes.

  32. Hi Joe,

Thank you guys for First Contact, excellent episode and it is so wonderful to see Daniel again. Especially loved the little heart to heart Daniel and Rodney had about recogintion for their work 🙂

I remember you saying that Daniel might have been asked back for the much lamented season 6? From the above list where there any in particular episodes/stories that you envisioned Daniel to be apart of?

    Many thanks

    Sprinkles x

  33. Shame. Season six could have been so very good.

Top of the list would have been Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. I love it when anything can happen since it can all be undone and the fact that there were wraith involved just makes it so delicious. Of course it depends on which wraith it is and what they’re up to. A possible movie? even though SG1 had a time travel one doesn’t mean Atlantis can’t.

Children of the Corn/Fantastic Four. This was your wraith children story yes? A really creepy ep would have been great. Lets face it kids are creepy, and wraith kids would be extra strength creepy.

Red Shirt Diaries. I’ve always wanted to get someone elses perspective on what’s going on around atlantis, possibly someone who wasn’t a soldier or scientist. One of the overlooked hospitatilty crew or something. Oh well, no chance now.

    you tease you

bye Joe and thanks for the stories that will never be.

  34. Hi Joe,

Could I possibly get a blog entry dedicated to me? My dad nearly died in hospital a few weeks ago, but he’s much better (though he’s still in hospital) and I also got mugged on Saturday, so I’ve been feeling more than a little down.

    Thank you,

    Susan

Hmm I do take notice of episode titles. I’m curious that certain titles are used in different tv shows (Deus Ex Machina, The Ties That Bind, Redrum). I did a bit of searching because I was sure someone had written something about quirky episode titles. I found a site with a few gems.

    It’s all in the title

    My favourites from the list:

Murder in the key of C (Barnaby Jones, said with a really deep voice)
    Forty tons of trouble (CHiPS)
Really Neat Cars And Guys With A Sense Of Humor (Hardcastle and McCormick, I love all of their titles)
It Coulda Been Worse…She Coulda Been A Welder (Hardcastle and McCormick)
Baja, Humbug (Simon and Simon, again brilliance with titles)

I often give Stargate episodes a different title:

    e.g.
    SG1 – 48 hours – Jaffa in the buffer
Atlantis – The Eye – Die Hard in the Pegasus Galaxy
Atlantis – Conversion – Bug Boy Bites Back
SG1 – Fragile Balance – Honey I Shrunk the Colonel

I’m sure you’ve all done it too. What episode titles did you come up with?

    Cheers, Chev

Voila!! Bonne journée =)! Bisou a demain.

  37. Hiya Joe,

Seeing that list of season 6 episodes makes me wish Atlantis continued now 🙁 I mean the door was opening for new alien races as well so… would those alien races mentioned in those episodes have been the ones we got introduced in season 5? Like the Daedalus Variation aliens?

    Take care Joe!

  38. Hello there,

just a word to say hello and to reassure you , I’m still there and read your blog everyday waiting for season 5 dvd.

It is great to know that you are working on a dvd film for Atlantis hopping that it will also be the case for Universe.

  39. ‘Flowers for McKay’.
    Great title.
    Incredibly poignant.
    *sniff*
    *blubber*
Still, The Shrine as a title is all-encompassing; a tad more global, methinks.
    Finger-on-the-pulse stuff, right, JM?
Not everyone knows about ‘Flowers for Algernon’.
If you don’t, peeps, google it now, or pester your local, most likely somewhat jaded librarian.
His/her eyes will fair light up.
    Guaranteed.
Still sooo happppyyyy TPTB didn’t go with Hexed.
    Hair Whump is a no-no.
JF could have pulled it off, but seriously – why make fun of the leading man?
    Humour, yes.
    Humiliation, no.

  40. I would’ve been really interested in Carter Rashomon and Red Shirt Diaries. They looked really awesome. I don’t know about #3 though…I’ve had enough “abandoned space ship” story lines from Star Trek alone to last me a life time!

I just figured out how to use the search bar. That has to be the most amazing tool ever. lol

One question that didn’t come up however that I’m really interested in is:

    1. What does the Department of Home World security do, and exactly what is it?

Hopefully you could answer this in a future blog entry, but if you don’t, do you think you could email the answer to me? I’m gonna drive myself insane if I can’t find out!!! hahaaha

  41. Is Brad Wright still doing the third SG1 movie? I haven’t heard any news about that lately.

  42. OMG – DOA? Think I saw the remake – meh – but remember watching the original. Don’t remember Edmond O’Brien per se, just that fact that it was in B/W aka 60’s TV (for me, anyway.) Creepy, when you’re just a kid.
DOA. Whoa. Now, THAT would have made the whumpers happy. Ish.

    *insert wicked whumper grin here*

  43. Afternoon, Joe

And I know.. i’m late. Sorry, but I woke with a bad dose of arthritis cramping my wrists and thumbs this morning. It kinda makes typing difficult and despite my ever devoted Labby wanting to help out.. well needless to say, the typos would’ve been unreadable with the length his claws are currently at.

Soo.. stiff. Sore. Tied up and superglued into two splints (apparently, the Docs don’t trust me not to chew the damn things off). And definately in need of either some alcohol, or home-grown mushroom soup (medicinal purposes only, I *swear*).

Reading through the list of (formerly) potential episodes, I have to agree with Chev on the Shep-whumping attributes of ‘Hexed’. Although the story sounds pretty cool and I always love to see a good mixture of laid-back humour mixed in with the usual daily angst of Atlantis.. I don’t think it’d have paid much homage to Joe’s hard work over the years. The Writer’s either, for that matter. Comical, Shep does best with Mckay by his side. Sometimes Ronon. And here and there with Beckett or Lorne.. But, naaaah.. Not making fun of. We like to see our charries retain at least a *little* dignity, even in the most dire (or comical) of circumstances 😉

“Finale: Our big VFX-studded season finale sees the pay-off to that significant story arc, the answers to lingering questions, a few surprises, and the cliff-hanger ending that will smoothly segue into our season 7 premiere… ”

That… just feels like a nail in the coffin.

    Meh.

By the way, i’m still sat here on pins waiting to hear your response to my question yesterday. If you missed it, fine.. I can forgive you. If you ignored it ‘cos you’re mad at me’, fine.. I can forgive you that too, although I usually have that many folks mad at me, I kinda lose track. So, uh.. don’t go feeling special there. Like I said yesterday.. tis brainfade.

But if you did want to ditch Queenie’s invite for a more traditional Yorkshire grub session in the midst of farming country.. then i’d be only too happy to drag you out around some of the local pubs here. And if you smile nicely enough, you can don your wellies and we’ll go choose your joint of beef from the field next door 😉

  44. It seems that a lot of the readers to this blog don’t read much horror. Well, I do (King and Straub are my two favorite writers) and as someone who reads a lot of horror, I have to take my hat off to Sarah Langan for the incredible job she did with The Missing. Many of the books I read creep me out. This one actually went a step further and actually scared me.

So my questions for the author:

    – What scares you?

    – Is there a specific approach you take to writing horror? For instance, I’ve always felt that “less is more” when it comes to horror and imagining the worst is always more frightening than having it described to you in loving detail.

    – You’re about to be exiled to a deserted island. What 3 books and 3 dvds are you bringing with you?

    – Do you see yourself as strictly a horror writer or might we see you branch out to other genres?

  45. Damnit, season 6 had great potential! I’d have loved to have seen The Replacements play out on screen, and Sheppard D.O.A. and Carter Rashomon sound pretty great, too.

Hamster Ball?! So, uh, when is Alan doing his guest stint on your blog (or doing his next stint, as the case may be)? Because there’s a question that’s just begging to be asked. *grin*

Say, aren’t you guys doing a series of SGA movies? Any chance any of these stories might find themselves playing out on the big screen (well, in DVD format, at least)?

Joe wrote: #4: Carl’s Replicator Story: If there are two subjects that Carl Binder embraces more than any others, it’s ghosts and replicators

Well, if any Replicators show up on SGU, I guess I know which writer to blame now… *grin*

  46. I remember being disappointed that Yesterday, Today and Tommorrow didn’t make the cut for SG-1’s season 10. I always assumed that it was a time travel story, but this is the first time that you’ve gone into detail regarding what the story would actually be about. Sounds awesome. Maybe you could develop it for one of the movies.

Well, Joe, I’ve watched “First Contact” numerous times now. *g* With all of my squeeing over Daniel and McKay, I forgot to mention, if you get a chance, could you please pass on to Martin my heartfelt thanks for doing such a great job in writing Daniel. I remember reading somewhere Martin saying that he would do his best to ‘stay true’ to the character of Daniel, and boy did he do an excellent job. So a huge (((thank you))) to Martin from me.

    dff

PS: Playing the SG-1 theme song when Daniel first appeared – priceless!!!

You (and your esteemed ‘non-jealous non-backstabbing’ fellow writer-type cronies) were willing to write a Carter Story, a Time Travel Story, a Creepy Kids on Ship Story and two Shep Whump Stories? My oh my…

All that talent going to waste.

Whoever it is that pulled the plug on Atlantis must be feeling sick right about now.

  48. Thanks. Haven’t heard anything new about my brother, one way or the other. He’ll be delighted you mentioned him.

Season six sounds great. Hmmmmm, wonder what the fanfic folks will do with all that fodder?

My teeth are squeaky clean and I have a picture up on the No Cavities wall. Gee golly that makes me feel special.

  49. Ho, by the way, we watched yesterday Quarantine (season 4). What a wonderfull episode.

But I think that something does not work well.Sheppard broke the window of the lab, climbs three storeys and broke again the window of command room.

It seems to me that it is impossible that those windows can be so easily broken because Atlantis is a SPACESHIP.

Did you think about it ?

  50. Hey Joe, sorry I haven’t been around for a while, I started back at university and things have been hectic!

I enjoyed spending the last 4 hours catching up on everything I’ve missed.

Thanks to whoever gave us Chuck with his feet on the console in First Contact, and for posting a picture of Kavan at the wrap party.

Speaking of Chuck and Kavan, what are the odds of getting them to do a guest blog?

Loving season 5 so far, can’t wait until the final half airs.

  51. I know you may have answered this one already, but I must have missed the answer. Are there going to be anymore SG1 movies, or are you guys done with that?

    Thanks!

McKay and Zelenka spoke about how fragile Atlantis is without the shield in Season 1’s “The Storm”. And Atlantis would only be in space with the shield raised, so the windows would be protected.

  53. Hectic day…not the norm for a Wednesday.

    Okay, I don’t care much for the S6 line-up, Joe 😉 , so I made up my own. It’s quite simplistic…

601 – Todd and the Wraith take control of Atlantis, drive all the intruders back to earth, and rule the Pegasus Galaxy the way it should be. The Wraith allow Sheppard, Ronon, McKay, Teyla and Keller to stay, on the condition that they become tava bean farmers, Todd’s new favorite food since accepting the gene therapy.

602-620 – With a little help now and then from Sheppard & Co., and occasional guest appearances by Zelenka, Lorne, and Woolsey, each episode progressively delves deeper and deeper into Wraith culture and society until the season finale, when we finally learn whether or not hive ships have bathrooms. *******Major Spoiler: In this final episode of the season, tentatively entitled Tiny Bubbles, Todd and McKay treat themselves to a Japanese-style communal bath, where – to his great misfortune – McKay learns the real truth behind Todd’s love for tava beans.

And yes, I DO feel better now. 😀 I wonder why…

Oh, yeah, that’s right. I just saw a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid commercial – hubby and I were fast-forwarding through commercials, and I saw a familiar smile. I snatched the remote from him and went back (while he protested, “since when are you into car commercials?!”). All I gotta say that ‘Prince Nuada’ is just as good-looking and sexy bald, driving a bigass SUV, especially when he says, “Oh, did I just spoil the secret?”. *thud*

It really doesn’t take much to make me happy. 🙂

    das

  54. Okay, lots to say. First of all, thank you so much for the stories that never came to be. I’m sure that some fanfiction writer will be very happy. I’m actually tempted myself.

About the episodes. I absolutely love time travel, and I think that “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” would have been one of my favorite Atlantis episodes of all time. I also like the Carter Rashomon idea although it reminds me somewhat of the Star Trek episode “Court Martial,” and “Sheppard D.O.A.” which reminds me of the MacGyver episode “Nightmares.” Sheppard would have to live, though. “Revenge” and “Payback” sound like “The Storm” and “The Eye,” and I agree that the “Red Shirt Diaries” would have been amazing.

Suggestions: 1. “Hamsterball” could have involved the musical number as well. Really, there needs to be an easter egg or something. 2. In “Hexed,” McKay could have been the one cursed, and Teyla could believe in the curse from the start. This would actually be funnier than Sheppard I think because McKay doesn’t believe in magic any more than he believes in medicine, and because it’s always great to have David Hewlett in ridiculous circumstances.

“Hair Whump”… that’s just hilarious. Also, I loved eddy’s alternate titles to “Turn of Events.” Even more are “Everyone on Atlantis is in Mortal Danger,” “Plot Progression,” and “Attack of the Enemies.”

Finally, I’d like to say that I’m sixteen years old, and I don’t think that the characters need to be younger in order for me to like them or relate to them. I’m around young people all the time- I’d like to see some cool older people on TV. The character breakdowns on Gateworld were not very reassuring. I’m willing to give Universe a chance mostly because I’m hopeful about the writing, but I think that Atlantis really had a lot left in it, especially with the breakdowns that you posted.

Only one question: Would you be willing to read Atlantis or SG-1 fanfiction now?

  55. Mr. M wrote:

For what it’s worth, here is how season 6 would have probably (not) broken down:

#1 and #2: Now What I and II?: Our big two-part premiere would have picked up where we’d left off after the shocking events of our fifth season finale: Enemy at the Gate. Would have picked up? What am I saying? WILL pick up since the idea originally conceived for the opening two-parter will now be the basis of the first Stargate: Atlantis movie, the difference being that we’ll be able to tell our story on a much bigger, visual effects-laden, character-centered canvas.

My understanding is that you’ll have a bigger budget, so more/better visual effects. But if you have the same amount of screen time to fill (88 minutes or so), how can it be more charactered-centered than what you would have written for television? Is it going to be longer than the first two SG-1 movies?

#3: Children of the Corn/Fantastic Four: [snip]

I think I’d have liked this.

#4: Carl’s Replicator Story: [snip] The placeholder title is Carl’s Replicator Story but it could just as easily have been Carl’s Ghost Story.

I would so have hoped it was a ghost story. I’m a little Replicatored out.

#5: Classic Atlantis: Marty G. wanted to do a story that took place in the early years of the Atlantis expedition, sort of a flashback to an adventure we’d never seen [snip]

    I would’ve liked this, too.

    #6: Carter Rashomon: [snip]

I remember when I first saw Rashômon. It was awe-inspiring! Everything about it — acting, writing, directing — was perfect. I remember some years later seeing the 1964 remake The Outrage with the late, great Paul Newman. It was good but didn’t have the impact that Akira Kurosawa’s original.

That said, I always thought the Rashômon format (3 or 4 biased points of view and a neutral party for the truth) to be great for comedy. During Season 3, I even thought up a Stargate Atlantis version. Here it is, updated:

In the teaser, Sheppard, Rodney, Ronon and Zelenka run out of a room just before it explodes. When Woolsey asks what happened, they all try to speak at once, so he decides to question them separately. As Chuck attempts to salvage the security video, Woolsey asks each man to tell his version of the story. They do so with personal biases clearly showing (Rodney sees everyone stupid; Ronon sees everyone short; Zelenka feels put upon; etc.) and suggesting different culprits. Chuck manages to salvage enough video footage for it to be determined that it was an accident and no one’s fault. The End.

#7: The Red Shirt Diaries: [snip]

Yes! How ’bout an arty episode where the camera is the minor character? You know, like that great M*A*S*H episode where the camera was the patient?

#8: Sheppard D.O.A.: Hey, remember the brilliant thriller starring Edmond O’Brien as a man who had been poisoned and had only a few days to find out who killed him and why? No? Remember the actioner starring Jason Statham as a man who has been poisoned (by a drug that will kill him if his heart rate drops) and has a limited amount of time to seek out some answers and dole out revenge? Yes?

    Edmond O’Brien film: Yes.
Jason Statham: No. Never heard of it.
Dreadful remake that gave us the Meg Ryan/Dennis Quaid marriage and the resulting press?: Unfortunately.

    #9: The Replacements:[snip]

    I don’t think so.

Any of those would’ve been great!

    #12: Hamster Ball: [snip]

    Sounds a bit like Cube.

#13: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: McKay’s experiments with a time-traveling puddle jumper send the team both backwards and forwards in time. [snip] At the end of the day, despite my detailed, color-coded outline, everybody else’s head threatened to explode so the story was shelved.

I like time travel but I don’t like it too complicated. I think my head would’ve threatened to explode too.

I think this could’ve been done right and would’ve become a fan favorite.

    I think I would’ve preferred the City.

    #16: Revenge:[snip]

    Not enough to go on.

    #17: Payback:[snip]

    Ditto.

    #18: Turn of Events 2:[snip]

It’s nice of you to pay tribute to the title you all loved.

    Season 7 premiere *sob*

  56. May I just say that “Red Shirt Diaries” may be one of the greatest episode titles.

Also you have now made me want to re-watch D.O.A and Rashomon. *goes to dig out her DVD’s.

  57. Let me just say that if you don’t publish what I’m about to say…I understand. I’m not going to be nice, Joe. Also, I’m not going to give away any spoilers just in case you do post this.

I’m just pissed as hell after finding out who this ‘new’ enemy is going to be in the next SGA episode.

When I found out about this I was stunned. WTF is going on with you guys? Have the creative juices stopped up like a clogged sink? Do you guys have no ideas whatsoever?

I love SGA and SG1. I had no complaints about getting rid of Weir. While I was unhappy about Carson, I sucked it up. It’s the nature of episodic TV.

You’ve said that you guys don’t want SGA to be SG1-like and so you’ve been reluctant to bring on SG1 characters. A few have been brought in for the occasional guest appearance.

But what the hell, Joe? The “new” enemy? Are you kidding? Has SGA been demoted to SG1 redux because it got the ax? Have you guys said to yourselves ‘why try’? Did you use a dartboard to pick out the “new” enemy?

All I can say, Joe, is SGA has one less fan. It doesn’t mean much in the big picture, but I honestly can’t defend or even support this decision for what you call a “new” enemy.

If this is what we can expect from SGA in it’s remaining time left then why watch? Hell, why should I even waste my time with Stargate Universe if no one is going to make the effort to be at least a little creative?

Given what I’ve read about Stargate Universe it already appears like it will be something I’m not interested in, but I was willing to give it a shot before this bit of news.

All I can say, Joe, is that it wasn’t SciFi channel killing the Stargate franchise. It was the writers.

  58. Hey! FANTASTIC job on First Contact… can’t wait for The Lost Tribe! A couple of things…

    a) What is your opinion on Sci-Fi yet again revealing a MASSIVE spoiler? The two largest twists ever in Stargate history have been given away by them. Is that frustrating?

    b) This used to bug me a long time ago, but I thought it had been cleared up, but while talking on the Gateworld forums I realize it hasn’t. When we first meet the Asgard, they say they are on the planet Othalla, in the “galaxy of Ida”. So, presumably, the Asgard galaxy is called Ida, and Othalla is one world in the Ida Galaxy. In a later episode, someone mentions the Asgard galaxy, and Daniel Jackson responds/corrects him by saying “Othalla”. I always assumed this was a continuity glitch, but some — and at one point even the Gateworld Omnipedia — claim that the Asgard inhabit two galaxies, Ida and Othalla. Which is true? Do both galaxies exist, with a planet in one galaxy named after the other galaxy, or was it just Ida, and Othalla is simply a world in that galaxy?

    Thanks a bunch!

This may be a bit to ask, but if you don’t post this question and answer it on your blog, can you email it to me? This one teeny question has PLAGUED me ever since season three or so aired.

I like that the two shows have connections, call-backs and history together, it gives a sense of depth to the universe of Stargate.
(now the dreaded Luv Triangle of Doom… that’s a whole ‘nother story!)
PS – I really hope Shep gets his revenge on Rodney in a future episode for doubting his intelligence.

  63. Thanks for posting the somewhat-possible Season 6 titles. I think some of them would have been really interesting (and they make me mourn SGA again).

I was glad to see “The Redshirt Diaries” and “The Replacements” since I always love the background characters and thought it would be interesting to see “A Day in the Life Of” type of thing.

But alas… maybe if you and the rest of the SGA writers go over to SGU, some of these can be modified, eh?

  64. Greetings Joe- from a couple of wraith fans- alas it seems there will not be a sixth SGA season – how can the fans let that happen… can we be happy with a couple of hours in film format when we lose twenty hours in a season- can we have an entire season in two hours- seems unlikely.

Hopefully we will see more Wraith in the future treated with respect and good story lines as they had in season four and the season five episode ‘The Queen’…I have never seen a spieces survive so may gencides attempts- the first being the replicators or so many attacks on their beings to be rid of them, on and off screen.

Feeling despondant with the loss of SGA, concerned about Wraith continuing we decided to cheer ourselves up rewriting a Dolly Parton song for you, didicating it to all the Wraith fans, especially Wraith defenders Club…or any one really- yes we wrote it to make our selves laugh instead of feeling sad but we also realised we cared so much about wraith in writing about it…

Here goes- our song is set to Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ and is called ‘Joe- On Screen’. if you do not know the original check out on the internet to get the idea and the tune!!!

Joe on screen, Joe, on screen, Joe, on Screen. Joe ON SCREEN!!!
We are begging of you please dont kill off our Wraith, Man

Joe on Screen, Joe on Screen, Joe on screen, Joe on SCREEN
Please dont destroy them just because you can!!!

    Wraith beauty is beyond compare.
With flowing locks of all white hair
With cat gold eyes and skins of pallid green

Wraith smiles are a gift of life
Their voices vibrate in a dark choral vein
And you can not delete them, Joe, on screen. 🙂

Wraith stalk about when they dont sleep.
Theres nothing we can do to keep
From crying out when wraith die all the same, Joe, on screen.

    And we can hardly understand
How you could easily slay our wraith, oh man!!
But do you know what they mean to us, Joe, on Screen??!!!

Joe, on Screen, Joe, on Screen, Joe on screen, JOE On SCREEN.!!!
WE begging you Please dont take the Wraith from their fans

Joe, on Screen Joe, on screen, Joe on screen, Joe , ON Screen.
Please dont kill off the wraith because you can.

You could have your choice of villians
But we can never love again.
Wraith are the only ones for us Joe, on screen.

We needed to have this talk with you.
    Our happiness depends on you.
And the Wraith too on whatever you decide to do, Joe, on screen.

Joe, on screen, Joe, on screen, Joe on screen, Joe ON Screeeen!
We’re begging of you, please dont destroy our Wraith, Oh Man!!!!

Joe, on screen, Joe, on screen, Joe on screen, Joe ON SCREEEEN!!!!
Please dont kill all Wraith even though you can.

Joe, on screen Joe, on screen.

Love your wee dogs- reminds of a horrible and very true story of a great dane dog and a plate of vindoloo curry and the e seven foot long slurry lagoon morning after effect.

love Craig the wraith who wrote this song with the aid of Kaeyla from the WDC

  65. Were the Lost Tribe aliens intended to have a bigger role in Season 7, or just a background role, similar to the Replicators in SG-1 seasons 3-7?

  66. Craig the Wraith, you just give me the hiccups giggling…

In all honesty, most of those episodes don’t sound like such a good idea…
With the exception of the Sheppard’s-run-of-bad-luck. Just the other week, I had a similar idea for a fanfic while showering. I’d pictured it more like somebody stealing Sheppard’s good luck (ancient tech, mckay technobabble) and him and the team having to go after it to reverse the process, without the usual aid of his incredibly fortunate luck, so everything would go awry until the thief would get over-confident and sloppy and start dropping some threads and/or some ascended Ancient (maybe Janus?) would interfere and get his ass busted for it, first revealing that Sheppard is really the great-great-great-grandson of said Ancient’s illegitimate looooove child…
What? Some people sing badly in the shower, I think of fanfiction stories…

  67. The kidnapped red shirt idea sounds interesting too btw. Although I suppose you do have something like it with Whispers… Would be interesting if Teldy could return, too. Christine Cox has a flair for playing the kinda character Teldy is, just check out the Chronicles of Riddick…

  68. Ok, The Scifi channel in the USA my have dropped the show but there is a bright side here and profit to be made for MGM.

I say this for the rest of us who may have wanted the show to continue (SG1 aswell!), What is stopping season 6, 7 and so on – just being sold direct to DVD or some another network like Skyone in the UK.

You have a good show with a lot of world wide respect, SG-1 should have also continued onwards aswell.

SGU as much as I seem to be interested in how this might turn out, it seems to be like reinventing the wheel alittle, but is this really the right way to go?

Going the way of movies might kill off SGA, SG1 altogether.

So how about linking both shows, So we have the Stargate Universe working both original shows together onwards, Rodney one week on Atlantis following some of the planned season 6 missions, and some linked to SG1 for season 11 maybe.

This would be the SGU I would want to see, following on from what has been done already so well.

  69. Some of the Geek backdrop of these shows focuses on the “current” Astronomical theories.. wormholes and blackholes being foremost.

But in the later years of SG-1 and SG-A its almost like time stood still.. multiverses have been around as long as Zombies of the Stratosphere.. or at least OtherWorld..

Today lots of the innerworkings discussed in SG-series is boring and commonplace.

It would be nice to see the new series at the very least “acknowledge” the existence of “Dark Matter” and possible planets at the nexus of alternative timelines.

And perhaps.. what about alien life that doesn’t cotton to mere humans messing around with “their” timelines.

My earliest memories of Stargate were “It can take you a Million light years from home.. but can it bring you back?”

The Ancient technology has been the ultimate abuse of “can it” all of SG-U looks like “but will it”.. with the ultimate already answered question.. “sure as long as we’re smart enough”.

It would be much better I think to “humble” the Ancient technology and show its is not omniscent and “can” be defeated.

Better yet would be to arrive on a wrecked ship and the gate fail.. and all their left with are pieces of Ancient technology that won’t work unless they can figure out how to fix it.. and it breaks down all the time.. a true maroonal.. not a half way ticket to a far off place.

And it might be far far better to have an Ancient without limitations follow them.. able and willing to help.. but not all knowing.. like a ghost haunted by their own memories.

  70. Too bad the ideas were turned down, they seem really cool. I just wish there was no keller relationship with Mckay infact no keller at all would of been perfect. Looking forward to universe.

  71. I find it strange that the people of Earth never find out that the Stargate exists. One would think that would generate some stories. It is also becoming ever more ridiculous that the US government and other major world governments manage to cover up the construction of giant space ships and alien attacks time and again. Of course then the nature of the show might change a little as well. But I think Stargate should have taken that leap a long time ago.

  72. What about a Borg episode, you know they appeared with the ship that kept going through different relaities?
    cpj

  73. Not bad for the 6 season but if i am sory for an classic ideea is the evil version of earthlings in a paralel universe (see Enterprise) in witch lets say that Humans would rule the Milky way with an iron fist and the fight in Pegasus with the wraith would be for teritory conquest, not for peace and justice. Some nice battles would come out of that.

  74. After reading the outline, I am now ever sadder for the loss of SGA. The characters had truly grown and I had finally bonded with some of them and I was looking forward to learning more about them and how their futures would affect the galaxy.

I know it is ridiculous to be so clingy to a tv show, however, I guess it demonstrates a job well done in the writing the department.

Although the chances are slim, I am still hoping for a possible season 6–just to tie the loose ends.

While I will still watch the movie(s) that come out of SGA, I highly doubt I will watch the new spin off SGU.

Thank you though for a great 5 seasons.

  75. Will not be it season sixth why Stargate Atlantis? For (after) it as it on land (earth) land not signify that there is end in galaxy of pegasus a lot else, they have not been coped spectrum and probably, they have not been discovered all planets that it have expired on farthest adventures of crews with (from) ideas producers sad SGA that this serial so end (end) count that there will be more

  76. Keep Stargate Atlantis alive! It’s the best Stargate series out there and it’s the best you’ll ever come up with. Please keep this awesome series going! There are some many fans of this show out there. What do we need to do to get you to keep the show going?

  77. I just came across this post almost a year and a half later. I just can’t live without my daily portion of Stargate Atlantis. SGU is exciting and all, but with MGM out of debt do you think that you could put in another 5 seasons of Atlantis(nothing beats SGA). I am excited for the movies, but looking at what happened to SG-1 after movies, I don’t want to think about them knowing that it means the end of the TV series. I know there is big support for this. The fan groups are all over facebook. You obviously have plenty of ideas but I have some if u need them. I’ll get the whole country to sign a petition if that’s what it takes to get the show going again. thanx for the insight into what season six holds.

  78. without Teyla Emmagan Stargate be worth nothing more.
grieve Teyla everything for us the fans .

    the fans love Teyla

  79. on atent la sixieme saison avec impacience en france car les projet stargate ne son jamai fini et les fan sens lace toujour finir se quon comence monsieur joseph mallozzi
que se soit pour les jeu ou les serie stargate

  80. Still after all this accumulated “waste” of time, not to mention energy that could of been put to construct the second half of the SGA series. This show by far is up there next to the “Next Generation” and surpasses all the Gate sagas, hands down. So, SCIFI, lets say you resurrect an old sprit and put to life a show that really meant something in the SCIFI community!

  81. I just discovered this great blog! mwaa!! I am like a child wanting to see season 6 finale! and not being able to sleep till season 7 begins again!! 🙁 thanks Joe for al your amazing inspiration, patience and dedication 🙂 SO MUCH APPRECIATED!!

  82. I found Stargate Atlantis the best of all the Stargate franchise. If they didnt create Stargate Universe, perhaps we could have had two more seasons of SGA plus a movie! I blame Scify and Sky… whats the point of cancelling a good show… its crazy.
